Be sure to double check your banking & credit card statements!

I was out early on Sunday morning. I couldn't sleep. I thought that I would go to Wal-Mart and then Menards. On the way home, I stopped at a Steak & Shake for a large Chocolate Malt. I enjoyed it. However, later for an unknown reason, I checked my credit card statement. Steak & Shake charged me twice. I called the manager and she said to call back in 24 hours since it was in "pending" status. Both of the tranactions were charged to my account. I called the toll free number. What a hassle and I still haven't gotten my credit. Today, March 29th, after giving Steak & Shake more 48 hours to respond (they didn't), I called my credit card company and reported it.

I think this is not acceptable. This is a bad customer service.

@ramapo17 I totally agree with you. With this kind of business, they should break the customers' loyalty.

Yes it is. I can see an accident happening but they should be checking the receipt before giving it to the customer.

Wow! Thank you for sharing that experience! A good heads-up for people! Sure hope you can get it resolved in a reasonable amount of time, and without having to make too many phone calls! Or being put "on hold" for too long! You'd think that the manager on duty would have been able to cancel out the second transaction, even while still in the "pending" status, but that probably would've been too much work for her to handle at that hour of the day, because I'm sure they were super-busy all the way up until the end of her shift. If you can't make any inroads with Steak & Shake corporate office, I'd call the credit card company to dispute the charge, if you haven't already done so.

That is very good advice.

I would not have called the institution where I received the product and service. I would have called my bank, had them put a hold and reverse on the one payment. I would have printed the statement (marking out any pertinent private banking information) and had it ready. I would have then called the corporate office and explained the double charge. It might have been a mistake, I am not sure. However, it does no real good to call the local branch of whatever institution you've received your product and service from, in this case, Steak and Shake. All they will do is tell you they are sorry, perhaps offer a coupon of some sort. Or... In this case, tell you to "wait".

That is good advice too. I would think for a small amount and if caught right away there should be no problem to get the money back.

I agree that you should check your bank and credit card statement. You can call your bank and they will reimburse your money and while they handle it with Steak & Shake.

I hope that you get your money back. I have had so many good and bad experiences with Steak N Shake I think I could write a book about it. lol My overall relationship with Steak N Shake could be summed up as "Good tasty food with poor service." Thank you for reminding us that we need to check our bank accounts for double charges. It's hard enough to make a living without paying for things twice.

Before moving here to Florida, I never heard of them before. There is one close to us here in Florida but we never went there yet. I will make sure to check the receipt if it does happen.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I am sure this happens a lot but most of the time I don't check the receipts. Had it been paid in cash you surely would have realized it. Maybe I better start paying cash too.
