How do you persuade your family to have a pet at home?

In fact I always like to have a cat at home. We used to have two cats and a dog when we lived in a house. They died when they grew old. We live in an apartment now and therefore my dad doesn't allow us to have a pet at home. Although I think it is OK to have a cat but my dad says it is not suitable. We have tropical fish instead. My son and I had a plan before. If we had a mouse at home, then my dad would have to agree to have a cat Of course I won't be so bad to get a mouse to home. But it will nice to imagine if we have a cat here

It's hard to have a pet if you are in an apartment where there are neighbors. They might go to your neighbor's premises and the neighbor won;t like it , especially if they will litter everywhere.

This is why I think a cat will be better.

Are you allowed to have pets while living in an apartment. Maybe your dad is just thinking about the neighbours and whether they will like it or not

It is OK to have pets in an apartment. My dad just doesn't think it is a good idea.

For me, things are a bit different. I live with my husband in our own house, and my parents rarely come to visit. But my parents-in-law often come and live for a while. I just decided that I would have a cat and took one home, without talking with them before. (Otherwise they wouldn't agree!) So they felt awkward at first, but soon liked the cat! It's great company when children are at work and they are home alone.

I don't want to take a risk. If not all of my family agrees to have a cat at home, I will not have one at home. In fact just my dad doesn't approve it yet.

We didn't have to do this, we all love dogs here.

@youless I understand how difficult it is to convince your family to have a pet. Hopefully, your father will agree to the cat

I think the majority of Chinese people don't want to have a pet with them especially cats or dogs. On the other hand, turtles parrots and hamsters are the common pet of the little ones. I think that most of you live an apartment-type house in buildings. So it would be troublesome to have domestic cats or dogs. I have two dogs and a cat. There is no need to persuade my family for having them because of they are also an animal lover. Space is not an issue because we have a backyard for the dog to stay and the cat is at home to guard for possible mouse invasion.lol

Here more people have dogs. I think taking care of a dog will spend more time than cats. Besides, I like cats much more.

You could have a house cat that does not go outside. Mine only goes out with us.

When I had a cat in the past, he felt so scared when I tried to bring him outside. It seems that I can't walk a cat

I have never had to do any persuading because my mother loves dogs and my dad has learned to just go with the flow. We have just brought home random dogs before and my dad was a little mad at first but then he got over it. He has even started to just bring dogs home.
