Today is yet another historical day today. History in the making. Great Britain or the United Kingdom has given formal notice to the European Union that we intend to withdraw from the Union. Last year in June the country went to the polls to either stay or leave the union and by a slight majority the answer was a clear leave.
The intention to leave was finally sealed today and hand delivered to the leader of the European Union of our intentions. The Queen approved and signed into law which made it possible for Prime minister Theresa May to sign on behalf of the United Kingdom our intentions to leave.
Former Prime minister had met the leaders of the union last year prior to the vote to ask for some changes to be made. What he came away with was hardly worth a blink of an eye. I can not understand why these countries persist to support a system that will not allow auditing of finances. Many of the people working in Brussels and Strasbourg are on inflated expenses on inflated salaries with inflated pensions. There does not appear to be any accountability of where the money is going. Although Germany is one of the biggest contributors to the EU finances followed by France and the UK.
I wish Margaret Thatcher was still around as she would have been like a little rottweiler and at the heels of these corrupt officials and taken a whopping great big bite out of their ankles.
So in 2 years time we will finally be out of the European Union. There will be a lot of headaches on the way. If they do not come up with sensible agreements Theresa May has already said NO deal is better than a bad deal and we will walk away.
Some angry members have threatened to cause as much problems as possible for the UK and will make us pay outrageous amounts to leave. This could be cause problems for them too for example France The UK are their biggest customer for Wine, Cheese a sizeable amount of cars. Germany mainly cars from Gemany High end cars. Spain vegetables and fruit not to mention propping up their hotels with a constant stream of holiday makers. So We could just turn our backs on the lot of them and source our goods from elsewhere.!

That is great! I wish all the European nations would leave the EU, and go back to being sovereign countries making their own decisions, what's best for each country.

Absolutely. The economies were not on an equal footing. Greece should never have been allowed to join the EU as their economy has always been in dire straights. They have been given billions of Euros to prop up their economy which they will never ever be able to repay!

I hope it is good for us Patsie. Hopefully we will be able to trade more easily with countries such as the USA rather than be told that we can not!

@garymarsh6 When someone does not want to show the accounts, there is something fishy. Brussels is the worst of all the corrupted government in Europe.

There is just too much corruption in Brussels Anna and they will not allow anyone to audit the accounts. Does that not tell you something!

There is no going back now they have given notice. It should look brighter for Australia with new trade deals.

Personally like others have stated you are doing right by wanting out, and this will save a lot of $$ in the long run.

It will be a big change but I think it is a change that was necessary under the circumstances.

I think you are right. I am so glad that puppet of David CaMoron, Obama, is no longer president as he too threatened the UK.

More trade deals heading your way I believe. New Zealand and Australia were two of the first countries to offer trade deals. Obama threatened the UK but that has been overturned by Trump!

All the best with all these changes, Gary. Here are some upheavals too @garymarsh6 . I am so fed up with politicians playing with people's lives.

@garymarsh6 that is terrible! Here it seems that if there are increases, they bring in increases on everything else too, so a person never quite breaks even. It's a horrible situation all around.

We are unfortunate enough to have greedy MP's in parliament too. They award themselves 11% pay rises whilst the rest of the population get between 0-1% In real terms our salaries have gone down over the past 7 years. It is years since we had a real pay rise.

I read once that there is a Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times." I think we are both living that Chinese curse in our lives.

Well hopefully for commonwealth countries we should be able to have trade deals more freely and not be constrained by the EU
