Don't count your chickens

Have you heard that saying? Don't count your chickens before they hatch? We seem to have done that. My husband, Vince, turns 70 on April 11 and we're having a 'small' party this Saturday. Hopefully it won't be bad luck to celebrate early.
Vince is one of seven and has four brothers and a sister still living. Although we invited them all, we were quite sure that two brothers, whose wives have quite serious health issues, wouldn't be able to attend. There was also another couple that we felt sure would be unable to attend.
So we offered beds for the night to other friends from the city. However, both brothers have accepted our invitation, as have the couple we thought wouldn't be able to attend. We are delighted that they've all accepted and with a bit of thought we'll be able to accommodate them all.
We will sleep two couples in the house, another couple and a single, all of whom know each other, in the bus, one couple in the caravan and the remaining couple will bring their motor-home.
Vince's sister and her husband will stay with a brother in Bunbury and two local couples will go to their own homes after the festivities. The remaining brother, a widower, will stay with his daughter who lives in the neighbouring subdivision.
What started off as a small celebration has turned into a gathering for 20 people – 22 including us. We're keeping it simple. We'll cook some steaks and sausages which we'll have with salads and there will be desserts after. We can set up three tables in our lounge and it will be a very happy gathering. Only five more sleeps!
The photo shows some of our group at the caravan park in Denmark, Western Australia.

Someone is flying from South Australia at Easter to look at it. We're very hopeful that, if he is making that sort of effort, he'll buy it and drive it home. Please keep your fingers crossed for us! In the meantime, we will make good use of it this weekend.

It sounds like you have sorted everything out and it will be a wonderful celebration. My husband will turn 70 in August, I haven't thought yet about what we will do.

When you plan a party you never know which way it will go! At least you are prepared and have enough room. Sounds like it will be a great party for Vince.

Over a good period of time, almost everyone will know everyone else which makes it all a bit easier.

It isn't often all of Vince's family get together at the same time so it will be a bit special if they all make it. Great photo opportunity.

@JudyEv sometimes it just happens that way. One Christmas we invited 15 people over for dinner, the next thing you know we had over 20 show up. We ended up asking (and so did some of our guests) a few people the day before when we found out they would be alone that day.

@HazySue The widower asked could he bring his daughter and SIL but we said no this time. They won't mind at all. Last time he just turned up with them which was okay too really. Mostly we don't mind extras and at Christmas I think it is great that you invited those who would have been alone otherwise.

Oh cool, looks like you have RV parks too... your friends look nice and I'm happy that Vince is getting such a nice turn out, I don't think that it's bad luck to celebrate early... providing you do some small celebrating the actual day too :-)

Yes, we'll do something a bit special on the day and he's also having his 7 golfing mates out for a barbecue.
