Useless Chat Representative Vent!

Today, I used the online chat representative feature at Macy's.
I received an email stating a Pop Up Sale essentially additional 40% off select Handbags starting at: 3PM PST, 6PM ET - I was on the site just 5 minutes into the sale. I found a handbag I wanted to purchase & when I added the bag to my cart it said, Out of Stock.
What in the world? Then a pop up asked if I wanted to chat with someone, why, yes I sure do! The woman told me, the bag I wanted is sold out. I responded, how is that possible? It has only been 5 minutes into the sale. She apologized for the inconvenience & told me the bag will be back in stock on the 18th. Well, the sale is only for 9 hours today so are you going to honor the price then. Her response: No.
I told her, well that is false advertisement on behalf of Macy's, by putting a 'good deal' that no one could technically order. She then told me, even if the purse is available to purchase - it is no guarantee I would get the item anyway.
What in the world kind of sale is this? I am a loyal customer of Macy's, but I am really upset with their false advertisements. I ended up just refreshing until I was able to order. So my order better ship as stated.

That is not cool. You are right, that was a useless chat. Of course, the rep can't help that the store has such a policy. Are we supposed to be on the site all day to see and grab the deals? Don't think so.

I do enjoy online purchases but sometimes it seems like they're trying to catch people by saying "sale" but in reality they have like "1" available.

"Customer service" is getting worse and worse all over. I called the IRS today, because I wanted to find out if I really have to file an amended return, and the guy told me they don't answer tax questions! Well then, what DO they answer?! Why else would I be calling the IRS, if not about taxes?

Apparently no one gets it anymore. Stores like Macy's struggles to remain profitable and viable, and they can't figure out how to increase their sales and earnings. Duh...just provide a little customer service! You take care of the customer, and the sales will take care of themselves! It's not rocket science, I don't understand why it is so hard for retailers to figure it out.
I've been working for Home Deport for a little over 2 months now, and it is unbelievable how much they bend over backwards to please their customers. No wonder their stock prices, sales and profits are through the roof! They still understand how important it is to take good care of the customer!

Home Depot for the most part has good service! They're so nice and jolly to help and assist customers. Once I was confused on a product the man who was just the restocker helped me out. He didn't even work at Home Depot but helped assist me anyway until an employee came
Is this where your new job is for the mornings?

@infatuatedbby Yes! I love working there! If the pay was better, I would quit my job at the city and work full time for Home Depot. They're already trying to get me to go full-time there. I told them that after I retire from my city job in five years that I will definitely go full time at Home Depot!

What a wad of poop. I wouldn't deal with Macy's anymore and tell all my friends to do the same. So many stores out there, so little time.

So far, it looks like my order wasn't cancelled.
I didn't save the chat conversation, but I had a horrible chat with Sears. I have the email transcript.

Hi. I worked for Macy's as a phone service representative and that was not even barely half a year ago. I help customers with these problems. Am not sure whether Macy's policy changed but there is a certain price adjustment that we do for customers. If you still order it on the regular price, the moment it reaches you, call Macy's. Tell them this situation. They will put you to their retail people hotline. Online representatives for online orders will help. They can do a price adjustment. However, you need to explain first this situation to a customer service rep before you get transferred.

I love Macy's, but some representatives are very useless. Nordstrom has a great representative and they are even able to order for me even out of stock and ship when it is in stock!
I am not sure if their policy changed, but if my order does get cancelled. I will definitely contact them and ask when the product goes back in stock- if I can get it for the sale price I ordered. But I am hoping I will get the item and not have any problems.

That's a shame what happened. A lot of stores are like that.
