The Dog Life

I have seen a constant truth show itself time after time when ever I see a homeless person on the street. The one true companion that will never judge them. A friend that will always be at their side during the best of times, and worse of times. Someone who will never make them feel alone. A dog. When I see this pairing, I feel both sad and calm inside. Sad because of the situation, but calm inside because I know they are taking care of each other. A guardian angel of sorts for the person who may have to constantly worry about being abused in some way. I've always been a believer of the belief that you don't choose your pet, the pet chooses its owner. So when ever I see a dog with a person who's luck seems to be currently waning, I'm led to believe that the canine chose that person for a reason. A reason that we will never know but only known to the dog. Photograph, Taken/Owned by me, Plethos

Dogs are loyal friends who never betray us. I see many poor people in the streets with their dogs, it shows how much they love each other.

@Plethos I fully agree, I know that homeless refuse to sleep in shelters where they do not allow them to keep their dogs. In my opinion it's a shame that they are not allowed to keep their animals.

@LadyDuck - it is a shame. A sad fact that many would rather sleep outside in the middle of winter instead of a warm shelter because of an animal. I dont know why people are surprised the dog was chosen.

Great point and they were showing a video of someone giving out money, but only a certain amount. All the people with money made it clear they wanted something extra and then the homeless guy comes up and takes two bucks and wants nothing extra. He knows what he needs to get to the next meal. I think dogs can sense good people homeless or not. Many homeless are only homeless because they do not agree with society. Sad to say.

when i lived in san bernardino, there were about 3 guys who i got to talking a little bit with. they all chose to be homeless, they just liked not being tied down by society.

It upsets me sometimes as one time a Animal Activist friend of mine made a huge deal about a homeless man having a dog, she seemed to blame him for the dog being skinny, and she seemed to think he would be better off with someone else. I looked at her and i point blank said, you're mother works all the time barely is there, she doesn't cook you meals, she doesn't bring you places, do you think you should be somewhere else? and she said no, i said that's because you love you're mother irregardless of anything you may see as a negative because she is you're mom and are instincts are to love unconditionally that is the same with a dog, although he does not get the nourisment he may with someone else he is still taken care of, he does eat, he is not the strongest but neither is the man, they keep each other going they keep each other alive. It took her awhile to see what i was saying but she understood, we don't pick who takes care of us and we do not judge them as we know they love us and do everything they can while also trying to provide for us. Sorry for the long winded comment.......

I feel very sad when I see a homeless person too. I am glad if they have an companiion but I feel sad if it is a dog or other animal because that means they both have to find protection of sort in bad weather.I also feel that an animal chooses who they want to be with in a family. I feel animals are very amazing because they truly have a heart and a soul and show them both to the one they choose to be with.

Yes it does make you think, and in reality people think they need to be seperated. Just wishing there could be more done to help make sure they both have better shelter. (Around here, most places will not find places where a homeless person and their pet can stay.)

I'm not sure. I think humans chose everything he likes and makes everything makes him like him. Humans are above than any created creatures in the world. And yeah I feel bad when I see one who have the same ki d of life. Some of the dogs die while they are on a journey with their owner. I just think that nothing them are not safe out there... And I just hope that people will try harder to live and save for the future if they are someone or some pets they need to protect too until the end. God bless.

logic would have me agree with you but if your homeless, then arent you just the same as an animal? the same as a stray? a human stray?

Often, homeless people have dogs for protection, and also to keep them warm at night! Of course then they have a problem if they go to a hostel because they will not accept dogs, so then they are stuck on the streets.

I'm not a dog person, but I love their loyalty and those doggy faces! You can be sure that I'd have a dog if I was homeless! I like your photo for this post.

Whilst most of Me agrees with you, there is a part of Me who thinks that the homeless person is being a little selfish. Regardless of whether they're homeless through choice or circumstance, the dog shouldn't just be seen to be their crutch to help them keep going. Still, as long as the dog is cared for, loved, protected, fed, and watered then no harm done.

im sure if the dog was mistreated, the dog would not be happy being pulled along. im sure it would be growling at the homeless person in defiance.
