Why did they remove this beautiful apple tree

When I was a child I would take the seeds out of my apples and plant them in the garden in the hopes I would grow an apple tree, unfortunately this never happened. The garden behind mine did have an apple tree and my mum used to joke with me that it was one of my seeds that some how founds it's way into their garden. I have been in the same house all my 24 years of life and I would notice every year this apple tree would Have lovely blossom and produce lovely apples and sometimes I would be lucky enough for some to fall in my garden. A few years ago we got new neighbors and although they completely re-landscaped their garden they kept the apple tree. However just the other day to my dismay, just before the apples would be due this year they had the apple tree took down. I do not understand why they would remove such a lovely tree, it wasn't too big to block sunlight and it was at the back of their garden so not in the way.
