Things I like about my life now that I quit smoking

I quit smoking 6 months ago, hooray! I have noticed some very nice changes.
I don't want to drink water all the time. I keep a water glass nearby but only take a few swallows per hour. When I smoked I was constantly thirsty and drink a gallon or more per day.
I can go somewhere in my car without carrying water. It used to be that I'd get in the car, light up, and have to have some water. Even if I smoked just one, I'd nearly empty my 28 oz thermos every trip to the store.
My windshield stays clean, no more icky residue on the inside. I cleaned it a few months ago and it's still clean!
My granddaughter says I smell better and I don't have icky air coming from my mouth.
People used to move away from me and try to maintain a space between us. I never understood that I smelled bad until I quit.
I'm saving about $200 a month by not smoking. I have not been able to put that in the bank since my finances have suffered a significant setback in the past half year. Hopefully things will stabilize and I can start banking that cigarette money!'
And finally, I don't have to go outside if I don't want to!! I don't smoke so I don't have to sit out in the "oven" multiple times a day. It gets as high or higher than 118 degrees here in the summer and I no longer have to go out in the heat and sweat to satisfy a habit. In the winter I don't have to go out in the cold.
So those are the most significant advantages I'm noticing since I quit smoking. I can't breathe very well, 40 years of smoking damaged my lungs horribly I guess, but I'm hoping that insurance laws change and I'll eventually be able to afford some insurance, get some tests, and get some help for my breathing difficulties. Even if I don't I'm still better off. Hooray for me!
Anyone else quit smoking recently? How are you doing?

My husband has once again stopped smoking. He still chews though. Yuck. He does smell a lot better since kicking the habit.

@dragon54u I gag when I come across his spit bucket. He uses either an empty beverage bottle or take out coffee cup. Told him he needs to get rid of them every night before he goes to bed. I wouldn't want the granddaughter to get hold of them.

Congrats and good for you. I bet your clothes smell a lot better too. I found this article hope it might help
When you quit smoking, it can be a liberating feeling to break the addiction. However, dealing with the habits associated with smoking, such as lighting up after a meal or having a few puffs when stressed out, can be just as hard to break. Breathing exerci

I am so proud of you. My husband smoked for about 30 years, but quit many years ago. I know the addiction is hard, but be strong and hold on. Good for you!

I think I'll have to settle for preventing more damage. That's fine, I just don't want to die suffocating with emphysema like my grandpa.

I never realized how horrible it smelled until I quit. I was used to smoke since I grew up with my dad smoking, my grandpa, aunts and uncles, my older brother, etc. Stinky!!

So while you smoked you did not know you were allergic to the dog? I bet it is quite a difference now in everything after you quit smoking. I never started.

I am generally allergic to dogs but I did not suspect that poor little dog as the source of my distress. Boston Terriers and Rat Terriers are 2 dogs I am not allergic to. Tiggy was a Pomeranian/Maltese mix that belonged to my daughter in law. I found Tiggy a wonderful home with a couple who had lost another dog a few months ago and she even has a Pomeranian friend named Rascal who loves to play with her. They don't feed their dogs commercial dog food, they actually cook for them! Chicken, broccoli, steak, squash, all the things that Tiggy loves!
It was a great outcome for both of us!
I'm happy for her and for my improved health but I still miss her..

Sounds like it worked out for the dog and the people and you as well. It is understandable that you miss the little one.

Wow, that's a long time! Is that you in your picture? If so, you must've quit smoking before you were born because you sure don't look a day over 45 or so. I heard that a lot of wrinkles disappear and a non-smoker begins to look younger. I don't really care about that but it would be nice!

I never smoked but I couldn't avoid the smoke coming from other people. Sometimes my friend's mom comes over and some. Good for you even though it's going to be a tough journey not to smoke since your body had gotten used to it.

Once you've become "fed up" with something, it's not hard to give it up. I hope you stay away from the smoke. Stinky, isn't it? I keep thinking how nice and pink my lungs are getting.

Congrats on stopping smoking. To me it is a nasty habit. There is smoke all over the place. I tried smoking a pipe once but never took of the habit of smoking. I am sure life will look better to you now that you stopped.

It has definitely improved! I breathe fine right now, it turns out I was also allergic to the poor little dog that my daughter in law had. I found the dog a wonderful home and moved to my own apartment and I am breathing better than I have most of my life!
The only problem is that I can smell a smoker a mile away! And it's a horrible smell, I can't believe that in all those years I did not smell that. Life is so much easier as a non-smoker.
I still think about it after 29 months, mostly when I get into my car because I always smoked in my car. But at least there are no ashes blowing everywhere making holes on the upholstery and my clothes! I love being a non-smoker and I'm so glad you never started!

That's what I said until I started! What a horrid habit and so hard to break. I'm glad to be free!
