Bacon, Bacon.....Bacon!

That just stunk up my entire house and left me gagging. What a way to start my day. I don`t usually eat breakfast because there is not much I can eat as far as "marketed" breakfast foods. But Tony has to have food and he don`t like beans and greens for breakfast. Although its noon, I stayed up till 3 am so noon is when I woke, I put on bacon for Tony and I thought I would have eggs. I went back to the kitchen to turn the bacon and that is when it hit me! That harsh offensive smell of an uncut hog. Generally you only get that smell from wild boar and someone who killed it and did not know you have to remove the hogs testicles right away or you will have that "smell" and the meat will be so strong you cannot eat it. I removed the skillet from the stove eye and put a lid on it, even with the stove fan on already, that smell was traveling all over the house. I was gagging as I took the entire skillet with lid out the back door and sat it on the deck rail. I quickly washed up ANYTHING that got near it, I finally had to remove the stove fan filter and wash it before I no longer smelled that. It will be a long time before I cook anymore bacon. What did I fix instead? I still had ham from Christmas in the deep freezer, I got Tony a slice out, fried us both 2 eggs each and I had a slice of toast, Tony 2 and one spoonful of strawberry jam. Having diabetes I cannot eat the oats, grits, cereals, waffles or pancakes, and Tony don`t like any of those. I am not much of a meat eater, trying to go vegan so what can I eat for breakfast? I will leave the kitchen for the day, after I wash dishes. Happy Easter

Oh wow that sucks that smell all over. In this apartment I have to have an air purifier right next to the kitchen or anything I cook with oil or fat will spead through out the whole place. I usually just have boiled eggs and toast for breakfast.

@andriaperry Yes that is the problem, grease..this kitchen fan does nothing the under the hood thing..Honestly, I think it does not go anywhere but in here. Yes I am constantly cleaning the kitchen to get rid of grease. A very happy Easter to you two too thanks Andria.

As a non meat eater, I'm a bit baffled that you eat ham but think bacon's disgusting.

I cooked Tony a slice, not me. The bacon was from an uncut hog, if you have ever smelled that, you would think its all gross.

I love bacon. But definitely not the smell. We make bacon once every 3-4 weeks. But when we leave the house for a little bit and come back all you can smell walking in is bacon.

I certainly learned a lot here, more than I wanted to know! Lol! I love bacon and the smell it makes as it cooks. Hope you can find something suitable to eat for breakfast. I usually just have coffee, since my tastebuds don't wake up until later.

Sorry Im diabetic and I can eat pancakes etc and I love the smell of bacon cooking and many others do too. I am not a veg an but I keep my blood sugar under tight control amd I have never cut out all those many foods. common sense is what I go by and I check my blood sugars a lot so I know what I cam eat and what I can not.

I don't fry bacon that often at home because it is messy. I prefer to get it at restaurants.

While I love the added flavor bacon can give to green beans, ham and been soup, or ground up bacon in a hamburger..... That "smell" you are referring to is horrid to my nose as well. I never knew what the cause was until reading this article. Thanks so much for writing this.
