What have you planted so far this Spring?

They say hope springs eternal. I have my first Spring "crops" planted, and hope to have a lush farm on my balcony by the end of the summer.
I just took this picture of my first little friends to poke through. There are two corns, two sunflowers, two green beans, one squash, and a few tomatoes.
Some will stay on my balcony and some will wind up at the preschool. My older kid clients plant their own with me.
It's been raining here for a few days, and I think that one little sunflower plant (leaning wearily on a corn plant) would like a little sun.
What have you planted so far this Spring?

@infatuatedbby Ah, we often have that in salads here in California. I like it in small quantities.

Do you have the 24th of May weekend as rule of thumb in the UK??

@Hate2Iron No, we have no set date to go by. Personally I just go on what the weather feels like, and make take notice of the weather forecast. It's been known to be frosty even in May, and of course that kills anything just planted.

@TheHorse lots, finding time to do anything though. I think I found someone to dig out the beds and prep them, once that is done, it wont take near as long to get some plants and plant stuff. The school has a good sale of already started plants, so may get those, not a bad price either

@Jessicalynnt Sounds good. I hope you get it going. I just find growing stuff really satisfying. It's a slow, mellow "project" that "gives life meaning" for me.

@TheHorse I had bought a piece of yam from the market It had a less than quarter inch projection on top. I slowly sliced it and planted it and now it has become a plant. I will plant it in a bigger pot and wait for results.
This activity kept me merrily on my toes for quite a few days.

Two tomato plants, 6 broccoli plants, 6 red lettuce and 6 red romaine, carrot seeds, green bean seeds and zucchini seeds. Still need to plant Swiss chard. I forgot to buy sunflower seeds for along the fence.

@TheHorse Our tomatoes were attacked by afids. The plans are slowly dying. We tried everything - soap/water mixed sprayed on - blasted them with the hose finally Liquid Seven - we have a lot of tomaotes but no more blooms and we will probably have to pick most of them green as the plant withers away and it had been beautiful!

Good morning, pony! So far, Pretty and I have been able to get one heirloom tomato plant into the ground... It has been almost continuous rainfall here for the last two weeks,
I have been harvesting bamboo shoots like crazy for the last several days, pony. I have 15 quart bags of sliced bamboo in my freezer, now. I have another two Walmart bags worth of shoots I picked last night to work up.
Would you be interested in some bamboo shoots? LOL!

@TheHorse Yeah, you can't use bamboo shoots to make anything except food with, pony. The bamboo I grow has a very mild flavor and seems to go well with whatever meat I am cooking. I treat it like carrots and slice the tender shoot up into little rounds, then put them around the meat so they soak up some of the juices as it cooks.
This give the bamboo some delicious flavor and the bamboo has the same nutrition as an onion. So you win both ways!
If Pretty uses any of the bamboo we grow in her handicrafts, the stalks must be harvested the second year or later after they sprouted. Until the second year bamboo will simply fall apart when it sits for a few days drying. There is very little you can use bamboo for until it matures after the first year.

@DaddyEvil Good bamboo information. Do you think the bamboo they use for speaker cabinets is the same kind you grow?
Versatile, high-performance passive speakers Compact, beautiful, and affordable you get the triple whammy of speaker design with Audioengine's P4s. Plus their stylish carbonized bamboo

I haven't planted anything since the days of running the organic farm @TheHorse . Sadly, I'm just not motivated any more.

@TheHorse Definitely on both counts. If my spine wasn't so screwed up I'd probably be still doing it.

Nothing outside as of yet... but we will have a ton of seedlings ready to go the minute the ground warms up. Hope that we don't regret the amount of little guys who will need planting!!
