So You Like Sushi

We're about ready to leave for my better half's therapy and my walk. It's a little cool and cloudy today. Hope I don't get caught in the rain. But I wont melt in any case. I've rang door bells in our building but evidently we are the only ones home. My better half's daughter brought us an expensive container of sushi yesterday.
I don't have a clue why she did it. She knows we are vegetarians and I wouldn't want to eat raw fish anyway. I hoped I could give it to neighbor, but it might be just as well no one was home, If they were poisoned I would be sued. I hate to throw out expensive food. But it's all I know to do. See you guys later. I'll fix a bite to eat and we're off.

@RubyHawk I like most of my meat cooked. I do like a good rare steak, and if the hamburger is the best quality, I will eat a cannibal sandwich. I haven't had one of those in years because the quality isn't there any longer. So all my meat is mostly well done now.

Not all sushi has raw fish, raw fish is not even an essential part of Sushi, sushi is vinegared rice wrapped in nori or laver or a kind of seaweed that is the base, now it could be eaten as is or mixed with anything you want, this is where the raw fish myth comes in

That's something I asked her too, Judy. Maybe her daughter bought her some that didn't have any fish in it at all but didn't think to tell her. I don't eat it either and I'm not interested in trying to any whether or not there's fish cooked or raw in it, but I'd call and ask first and maybe give it back.

@louievill I don't think there was raw fish in the sushi I've eaten. Usually it seems to be salmon or tuna with other bits and pieces.

Sushi is a vegetarian dish except if you opt for those with crab meat or other seafood and its not raw.

@louievill I think it's a lost cause, Louie. Everyone thinks it's raw fish and we probably always will think that way even after seeing your link on another comment.

Think you got it all wrong and mixed up, sushi is not raw fish, its vinegared rice wrapped and rolled in a seaweed called nore, its really vegetarian most of the time, depending on your choice of filling usually mangoes, cucumbers etc.. the only thing not vegetarian about it is if you opt for the one with crab meat or some seafood and mind you it's not raw. The dip is usually dark soy and wasabi that does not contain any animal protein. It's a very healrhy dish.
What you are referring to as raw fish is sashimi which is an entirely different Japanese food., its also dipped on the same soy and wasabi.

@sol_cee of course I love it, sushi I think has now been adopted internationally. We make our own sushi using a bamboo rolling mat cause it is expensive when it is so easy to make.

@CaptAlbertWhisker We wouldn't eat it anyway if it was fish, not since we're vegetarian.

Did you ask her or did she bother to let you know what was in the sushi? There is sushi that is just vegetables without any fish or meat at all. Although some of it does contain tuna. Do you not eat any fish? I'm not sure I realized that vegetarians didn't eat fish either.
I don't eat sushi myself and I was quite surprised when my daughter wanted to try some. Some friends at work took her out for her 25th birthday to a nice sushi place and she did like it. Now she will eat it from time to time and if I remember right she even turned her older sister on to it too. She just doesn't buy it in the stores to bring it back home with her for later.

I never knew you were a vegetarian! I used to be a vegetarian but I got very sick. I still don't like eating meat so I limit what I eat, but balance it enough that I'm mostly vegetarian with a couple of chicken or fish days. But I say no to sushi, as well. An old friend took me out for sushi once. She insisted I try it. I couldn't do it. And she made fun of me for a month. Needless to say, we're no longer friends. I could respect her choice to love sushi but she couldn't respect my choice to skip it. So I skip her now.

Mostly sushi is rice and vegetables and the seaweed. California rolls are rice, avocado, other things. There are many that contain no fish at all cooked or raw. We buy it or make it at home. One of the nicest meatless//fishless meals we have.
Here, the ones with raw fish will have the piece of fish right on top so there is no wondering. My husband likes it. I don't mind it as the little piece of fish is seasoned/marinated. But I prefer all of mine to be cooked.
