Good evening.I was thinking about my children tonight. When they were young. My oldest daughter was around two or so. She was playing were some of her friends. Then after this was over. cleaning her up.I saw this mark on her arm. What is this. Nancy fiction bite me.why did she bite you?were you playing, fooling around etc. No no reason. Then I heard a lot about child biters.Never pay anything attention to it.We took her to the Dr.for her check up and explaining about the bite mark. He said that this is very typical of child at a young age doing this. He said biting is a typical behavior often seen in infants,2 years old etc. This can be very upsetting harmful behavior. Like some puppies. They do not bite but mouth. My daughter dog did this a lot. I did not mind it.But she did not liked it. Did you ever had a child biter. If so how did you handled it.

My second oldest son used to bite until I told him if he bit me I would bite him back. He did not bite after that.,

How old, roughly was your child then, Judy? Most young children wouldn't understand just being told.

Mine used to bite me in the arm a few times but I chose not to make anything of it as he was out for attention to his tantrums and that way he grew out of it. It can be distressing for some.

@amadeo He once threw me a big tantrum in the middle of Heathrow Airport too and bit me again as I picked him up and let him work his temper off kicking away. I was used to it and like I said it stopped abruptly.

Luckily I do not have biters, but my kids had "friends" who bit them! Believe it or not, last year my daughter had issues with her troublesome friend . . . the friend actually bit my daughter . . . and we are talking 11 year olds!!

@amadeo This is a girl . . . and still at 11 her mother doesn't do much to guide her daughter right from wrong . . . so the girl has gone on to bigger and worse problems!

I had a biter in the playgroup I ran when my son was young. Unfortunately I have forgotten what we did. I think we probably tried to look at the context and distract before the biting occurred. Then removed the child to a safe, quiet space if it happened. We probably also explained the other child was hurt and got the biter to say "sorry." One day, when my son was 16 he introduced me to a friend. He said "This is T the Playgroup biter!" The lad did not still bite people much to my relief!

My oldest son was a biter until he got bit himself. He never did it again. Nothing I did made any difference to make him stop. It took another biter to do the trick.

No one ever bit me when I was younger, that I remember. But there was one little girl who would sometimes see a white hair growing among my dark hair, and she would always yank it out! ouch!

I heard that as a child I bit... but... no kids in my life so I can't reply. I think it's right, kids can bite it's a normal little kid thing....

My sons were not biters but my granddaughter was. She is 3 now but when she was 2 she would get mad and bite her mom. She never bit me for some reason--she put her mouth on my arm once and I told her if she bit me she would be very sorry. She grew out of it when she learned to talk more and could express her frustrations better. While she was biting we would explain that it hurt and every time she hurt herself somehow we would tell her that biting hurt even worse. She got the idea. Some people bite them back but I never believed in doing that.

No, my kids never bit anyone and I don't think they were ever bitten either, although I've heard about it from time to time. Some parents will gently bite the child especially if/when the child bites the parent. Since it's right after the initial bite the child seems to realize what's happening and supposedly it helps to inhibit the biter from continuing to bite others. The problem arises when it's at a daycare or other place and the parent isn't readily available. My daughter just got a job in a day care this past January and there's one child that is biting one other child. They have certain things they can do for discipline and none of it's working to dissuade the biter child from biting. The parent's of the one being bitten have threatened to remove their child from the daycare. We think the daycare should ask the parent's of the child doing the biting to find a different daycare. Haven't a clue what will be done about that as my daughter is quitting that job for other reasons and moving back home.

I think almost every child bites during the period where they first grew their teeth, probably to test it out. The kids in my family eventually never bite after they get older.

when the child first child is always biting his hand (thumb in general) it usually happens, we have to anticipate by providing a dot that has been largely abandoned today. dot look good and hygienic.
