My New Car

As I said last night, I am showing off my new car today. Here it is. Red, sporty, small, 3-door. It's a Saturn. It's taking some getting used to after the big car I had. It shifts on the floor instead of the column. I know where the windshield wipers are. I can't tell you how many times I turned them on yesterday during the test drive just trying to shift from Park to Reverse to Drive. I've gotten a bit more handle on it this morning with my trip to the pool. The car I wanted turned out to be a money pit. It had tons of issues and would have cost a lot to fix. So we went looking. We stopped in at two places, but nothing in my limited price range. The second place did offer the gem pictured above. I had a maximum budget of $3000. That needed to include everything. The sticker price on the car was actually more than that, however, I got a deal on this. He did ask me what my top budget was and he said he was sure we could work it out, especially since it was cash and not financing. There was also what to do with the old car. During the test drive we did stop in to talk to one salvage yard and what they offered was not much. I wasn't enthused considering all I put into that car in the past year. By the time we got back to the dealer, they offered $200 for the old car and a flat $2800 for the car including tax, registration and fees. Otherwise it would have been over $3000 easily. So I got a great deal on this car and there's nothing wrong with it whatsoever. It drives like a dream. Good brakes, good pick up and go. Being a 3-door will take some getting used to. I didn't even notice it wasn't a four door until we got it back to the dealer, when he showed me the third door accessible only from the driver's side. I did have fun filling it with gas the first time. I tried to pry open the door, only to find there is a release for it in the car. My friend, who was with me by that time, as we were headed to the fish fry, showed me where to find it. I also have my very first remote access control for the car. It won't turn it on, but it does lock/unlock the car, and if I hit it accidentally, the horn will go off annoyingly until I turn it off. I won't be pressing that button, unless I can't find my car, which being small, is a possibility in a large parking lot like Wal-Mart. There you have it. I love it.
