"You were adopted. Mom told me"

Were you the elder one in the family and teased your younger siblings? I was the younger one and yes I was told I was adopted. And each time a beggar woman came with a child in arms I would be told that she had come to take me and leave that other baby behind. You can imagine what torture that was. I would then beg to behave
So what was your experience?

@valmnz Today's kids are too mature to believe such things.

@allknowing in actual fact these days that sort of teasing wouldn't work, would it, as there are so many different ways a family can be made up.

Children do and say some strange things. As the perfect sibling, there was never anything mean on my part.

Those days we did believe what was told but you think today's kids can be fooled that way?

@allknowing well, some kinds of teasing can scar a kid for life
anyway, that is a huge family indeed...

I always thought I was adopted most of my life-although I was never told that. Then I was a bit disappointed when I saw my birth certificate and I wasn't actually adopted. Oh well.
My son swears he is adopted and my oldest daughter loves teasing him about it! I am always telling her to stop telling him he was adopted-it's bad enough he believes that.

That is part of growing up. Each household had their own little ways to bring up kids.

That is quite cruel and can cause all kinds of emotional insecurity! How wicked!

It was not that wicked as I remember. If you see that image it appears to be universal

That is hilarious, how did your sibling get away with that, as a mom I would have smacked him and given him to the gypsies... Never ever heard that but we adopted our last child so adoption was not a bad word in our family.
