What's the harm in asking

My uncle and aunty went camping last weekend and when they came back they couldn't believe their eyes. Their mango tree was full of green mangoes before they left. To their dismay they found that some intruders got into the yard during their absence and plucked a whole lot of mangoes. My uncle was very frustrated as this was in no way ethical and he said that if those people would have asked him for the mangoes he would have definitely given them some. Some people seem to have lost their manners.

That is just awful. I hate when people take things that don't belong to them.

taking just a few might have been cheeky but tolerable - stealing the lot is just nasty though

You should have looked at the mess they did there. Unfortunately they took a lot of mangoes and you can mostly find the small ones on the tree now

The same thing happens here during mango season - but only in some areas. Where we live, they would ask first.

Oh that is just so annoying. Imagine, expecting to have some from the tree, and yet they are gone anymore because of scrupulous people. We also have lots of mangoes like that in our own tree inside the house, in the vacant lot in front and at the side of our house. Hubby and helper picked some in front. The owner doesn't even visit the vacant lots , so we and the neighbors get them. I suppose, no one will complain.

Yes if the owner does not visit the land then it is okay for you to pick the mangoes. Here it feels like if those people were waiting for my aunty/uncle to be gone to steal the mangoes. And they even climbed over the fence

I would be angry and upset too, If its not your own they should not have picked them. Too bad he doesn't have a way to put a camera up next year... That would be interesting if he could, But they probably would steal the camera too...

They jumped over the fence and came in the yard and left leaving broken branches. There is no camera unfortunately. Maybe a security camera with an alarm might help. But for this my uncle will have to get registered with an alarm and security service company and it may be costly. But however he can still go and enquire

I don't think it's just some people who have lost their manners but a lot of people have. People have no regard for other people's property anymore, which is a huge shame. I'm so sorry your uncle and aunt lost a lot of mangoes off their tree in their absence.

that is so true. we have many mango trees in our backyard, a little farther, and whenever the mango trees bear fruits, we expect to have some unripe fruits, but lo and behold! the fruits are plucked by neighbors. they steal the fruits, that is why we somehow 'curse' and say,"i hope the one who stole the fruits will have stomach ache".

People are always so greedy. How on earth can your neighbours behave like that. They could have just asked. There is a proverb ''once a thief always a thief''. I think this might apply to.them

It's not at all a manners and I don't like these kind of people. Even the same happened to me in last year with my guava tree. One of my relatives did that so I couldn't able to fight with them.

How could they possible eat so much of green mangoes. They were just thieves and they took nearly most of the mangoes. Maybe if my uncle post such a sign they may indirectly get the message

generally in village we deploy guard to protect our farms and garden.Mango tree in this season is very precious thing to be left unattended. You must lodge FIR in local police station.

The police won't be able to.do much. Those thieves have already fled away. It is a good thing to employ guard. My uncle was previously sick and hospitalised. When he came back home he wanted to go somewhere to relax and clear his ming. Unfortunately so much happened in his absence

That's a shame. I have picked fruit from trees in my neighborhood before, but only trees that overhang into public areas. I don't go into people's yards to do it (unless I have permission), even if they don't have a fence.

I had trouble with such intruders too. And they are not kids, they are people without any manners. Some of them even have the same fruit planted in their own backyards, the same fruit they come to steal from me.
