Animal shelters are overwhelmed with all the animals getting dropped off, found neglected and abused every day. There are even puppy's in shelters already. These dogs never even had the chance to find out how a loving family feels like. It is a shame! Why? Because all that people see is a cute little puppy or kitten. So cute to cuddle with. .. But when the animals get older and they don't have these cute puppy faces no more than people give them in to a shelter. There is responsible with getting a pet. Insurance, doctor charges, space and lots of love. Think about that before you get a pet. Because the most of the animals in shelters get killed because they just don't have the space!

This is so true! When you take home a pet you are adopting it and should give the same commitment you give to a child. To nurture and love it for life. Pets are even more work than kids as the kids can eventually feed themselves, and you don't have to let them out to go to the bathroom for the next 15 years or so...
Pets are a commitment and people need to think long and hard before picking up that cute puppy.. do you have a stable life yourself... Will you be moving anytime soon? are you going to make sure your next place allows your pet or are you the type that will just dump them? IF you answered the second -DON'T GET A PET. Get a stuffed toy!

Hi you are so right that's what I mean Summer is close and people giving their pets away into shelters like it's normal when they go on vacation. I made a big about abused animals and it's redicules that even when they get told that the pets going to be killed in the next few hours that the owners just turn around and walk away. That makes me sick.

I think a good idea would be an extra chip on all the puppies without the new owner knows about it. A chip with the breeder information . The breeders should make a contract where it says that if the new owner needs to re-home the dog that he has to give the dog back to the breeder. And if they don't that there will be a fine. People would think more before they get a dog. And so many unwanted dogs wouldn't end up in shelters.

I used to have a Please spay and neuter your pets!! sticker on my car. I need to get another one. Some dog breeds are adorable and then people get them and find out they are also a heck of a lot of work so then they dump the poor dog in the shelter for someone else to figure out. I hate that. I have 3 cats and two dogs. The three cats are all survivors and adopted and one of our dogs is also a survivor.

I ran a no-kill shelter for several years @Germaoney . At one time we had 106 dogs and 20 cats. Some of the reasons people wanted to adopt an animal or why they were leaving one, was absolutely ridiculous.

I know it's absolutely crazy. When I read on CL " looking for a puppy for my 2 year old" These people looking for a babysitter so they don't have to intertain the kids themselves. And when the kids hurts the animal it ends up in the shelter saying this dog is dangerous it bit my child. But that the child hurt the dog doesn't get told. To many parents don't teach their kids how to treat an animal right. That they have feelings and can be in pain.

@Germaoney Exactly. You can bet that before anyone ever adopted an animal from my shelter that they were grilled like I was the Gestapo. If I felt any answer they gave was wrong; no animal left my shelter.
