How and why avoid degrading entertainment?

Do you find it hard to find enjoyable entertainment that is family oriented? There are many shows or movies that I start and never finish because of either too much violence, obscene speech or sexually explicit scenes. So now I am watching a show about mermaids called "Just Add Water" because I was getting fed up with having to work so hard to find something decent to watch. It if obviously made for children but at least my conscience is not bothered. What do you think of today's entertainment? Anything decent that you've seen that is family-oriented and can recommend? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scientists don't expose themselves to hazardous material, so we don't need to expose ourselves to degrading entertainment.

We no longer watch TV. We watch things on the net through YouTube or we watch videos. I can suggest you try to go on YouTube and search for family entertainment.. For these reasons when there is nothing interesting at all I am still a cartoon fan.

Even the YouTube commercial though ! I remember in high school when a teacher would refer to YouTube to show us something she would always have the screen and volume off until the commercials passed because they were so inappropriate.

@RasmaSandra Well, I listened to your suggestion and I went to YouTube and found a great movie and watched "Undercover angel". Thanks! The only thing on YouTube is the quality of the videos, more often then not, are not of the best quality but they are free.

@1hopefulman Yes, and if it is a show we adults want to watch then we need to make sure children are not present.

here we are totally fed up with our family oriented movie. That is why people are preferring historical movies. or some dirty comedy shows.

Finally someone agrees ! I haven't watched T.V in almost two years because of it. It's so degrading and filled with so much offensive stuff that is geared toward children in such a subliminal manor. Honestly just stick to netflix or hulu, it's your best bet to find anything worth watching. btw, Disney?? Not as innocent as they lead you on to believe. The whole industry.

I find that even on Netflix there's a lot of horrible stuff and we have to be very selective. I guess we should go by the caveat, let the watcher beware.

There are not many programs on TV that are good.. maybe some made for children. Astrid Lindgren wrote great books for children, and many grown ups like them. Her books about Emil are good, and some others too.. They were made to movies, so maybe they on the Internet now.. I like some fact movies about nature and Animals..and about when people sell their old unnecessary things..

I really liked what you said in the conclusion. Unfortunately nowadays there are many shows or movies which we cannot watch with the famiky. Gone are the good old days

So true! Just as we are very selective as to what we put in our mouth, we need to be even more selective as to what we feed our brain.

So many shows are made for children that it should be easy to find them.

@1hopefulman I download from YouTube. There are a full section with "full free movies". There are many old noir movies that I like a lot.

Yes, everything doesn't have to be so graphic. There needs to be a balance. Life is hard, but we must keep values strong. TV is reality and that's not always bad. Prob is, the crap gets ratings.

Yes, it's a struggle to keep ourselves at a high level. I am presently watching a show about the Cheapest Weddings and am enjoying it. I am a regular watcher of Shark Tank and Dragon's Den as I used to be an entrepreneur. Any interesting shows that you are watching these days?

Today's entertainment on television is full of all the vices unfortunately. I am alone in my apartment so when I am not working and I feel like watching a movie, I would select something decent.

I actually don't have a TV anymore as so many programs were disturbing and at times even the commercials for other shows were not watchable. I subscribed to Netflix but many of the shows are disturbing. The worse ones for me are the ones about the supernatural. If a show has swearing it hurts my ears. It takes a while to search for something decent.
