So many animals in desperate need of homes

There are so many dogs and cats who are in desperate need of homes in my country. We have associations that cater for those animals but unfortunately space becomes a problem at times and those animals have no other option but to wander in the streets to look for food and shelter. Very often you will find people feeding those animals but unfortunately there are people who mistreat them too. There are many of those stray animals who get lucky and are adopted. As for others they have to wander forever. What is the case in your country? Are animals treated fairly?

@Shavkat this reminds me of something. Some years back they found dogs bones in a pastry shop over here fortunately there are animal rights nowadays

@Nawsheen During the old days, some of the local people eat dogs. But now, animal rights had strictly imposed. They will be imprisoned if they were be caught.

I have experience adopting cats but mom never liked it so we resorted to dogs. But I realized now I can take care only one dog since I got other things to do.

We adopted a cat too. But then like you say we can't really adopt many animals. We need to have time to look and ensure that we are looking after them properly

Sadly, this is a problem in this country and so many animals can't find a forever home. I wish there was a quick solution to end homelessness in this country.

Those animals are just suffering. I hope the government come forward with a program of sterilisation and there will be less stray animals

We don't have animals roaming around. We do have shelters but they often become full.

The problem here sometimes the shelters become overcrowded and the ways those animals are treated in those shelters are despicable. The government is not taking any actions to help those animals and the number of stray animals just keep on increasing

Same situation in my country too.. and not only dogs and cats but cows wander in the streets too..they don't get proper food and water so they eat plastics and die. We always feed stray animals. And wish they had a proper home.

It is the same scenario here. Number of street dogs, stray cows, oxen and Buffalo are more than what people could feed them. I feel pity on them.

@Nawsheen It is pitiable condition indeed for animals. Instead of caring and helping animals who just can't express or speak like us, torturing them is cruelty. Some people kick dogs, which is really shameful act.

We have the same problem. Many people buy puppies and kittens, and then after a while, they cannot take care of the animals, they will try to get rid of them. The law here is getting very strict. The puppies will have chips embedded in them with the owner's detail. But still, many people just turn the poor animals to the association that takes care of stray dogs.

@ridingbet omg that's so inhumane. Fortunately I did not see that one. I hate it when they post such images on FB. The tears in the dog's eyes made me feel like crying too. Those persons must be punished in the same way.

The one thing that pushed me to write this post is the photo of a dog which was poisoned which I saw on FB. There were tears in the dog's eyes. I just couldn't look at this poor animal. How can people be so cruel. Hey that's lots of pets you have at home now. It is a nice feeling to be surrounded by those lovely animals. Are you going to keep them all?

@Nawsheen no. i asked one of my colleagues if she still wants a dog and she said yes. i also saw and read that post on FB about the brown-furred dog that had tears in her eyes because she was poisoned. we read the same post of animal cruelty. i hope you did not see that white dog hanged on a tree by a Muslim man who hit the dog with a paddle. those images are so gruesome that i had to take down and delete that post.

There are institutions over here fighting for those poor animals. The problem here is that the population of animals just keep on increasing. Sterilisation would be a better option. The government decided to come forward with it but nothing has been done. PETA already knows about the situation here since years back. But nothing has changed

@Nawsheen It is a pathetic situation when children got attacked by stray dogs. It happened in Delhi as well as in Kerala. Some may talks against government for not taking any steps and some may talk for dogs for protecting them. Every time there will be a debate on this.

We should all remember that God holds us accountable for all that we do and don't do. @Nawsheen Proverbs 12:10 New Life Version (NLV) 10 A man who is right with God cares for his animal, but the sinful man is hard and has no pity.

We have animal shelters. Dogs do not wander the streets unless they get loose from their owners. Cats are another issue, they do wander at will. As for how people treat animals, there will always be those who abuse them and that is sad.

Animals are not always treated well in the UK... only down to irresponsible owners, which shouldn't be allowed to keep animals! I wish I could keep a pet, a rescue pet - but I live in a flat so I would find that unfair with no garden
