Mothers and Daughters

Ever looked into the mirror
and right there you see your mother?
and when your daughter you espy
she looks like you in days gone by.
She is June to your December
but your youth you do remember,
and words your mother said to you
you say to her, they are not new.
Now that your looks have somewhat fled
and fellows look at her instead,
you don't mind as she's your daughter,
she'll remember what you've taught her.
You are so proud that she's your child,
you know that she won't turn out wild,
what e'er she does, she's in your heart
of that she'll always be a part.
But now your roles may be reversed,
she loves you though you're at your worst,
and if perhaps you should need care,
she is the rock who will be there.
A poem for Mothers' Day in the US. If you are lucky enough to still have your mother, cherish her and make sure she knows it.

@chrissbergstrom Thank you, I'm pleased you like it - perhaps I'd better do one for 'mothers and sons'!

Lovely poem and so true. There is that saying 'be kind to your children. They'll be the ones choosing your nursing home'. It's Mothers' Day here but my son thought it was like weekend so I've received a card and a phone call. I'm pretty sure he'll ring again. And maybe my son from Ireland will ring if he remembers. he often rings on 'their' Mothers' Day so he gets brownie points for that.

Great Poem Jabo.
It was last Sunday here but I will think of it again tomorrow so that will be the third one I am thinking of and celebrating in my own quiet way.

Good Poem ! As you see your daughter, you would see yourself in youthful days and feel a great affection for her.I think even though my parents have passed away, they are still alive in a sense, because I have inherited the physical and mental qualities from both of them .

@changjiangzhibin89 That's it exactly - our parents live on in the genes they passed on to us, which we then pass on to our offspring ( if we are lucky enough to have any).

@RasmaSandra I never thought I resembled my mother until I was about 60, and then all of a sudden there she was in the mirror. My own ndaughter looks a bit like me too.
We never really stop missing our mums do we?

Lovely poem. I do cherish my mother. Visit her as often as I can. Hoping my granddaughter feels better today so we can visit her. She adores her great-granddaughter and seeing her smile is wonderful.

Perhaps it ran a little different in our family, I looked in the mirror and saw my dad only feminine it's the other kid that favor ma.
But all those habits, both good and bad, that I have are just like mom's.
Long ago I told myself I wasn't going to do what she did ..... but it seems I'm doing pretty much exactly what she did, now I have to unlearn what I learned

It's kinda scary @jaboUK
In 2008 mom had so much junk mail all in one place, on her kitchen table. We couldn't sit to eat there anymore so I finally told her I would help her sort through it but she said no because she didn't want me to throw away anything important ..... after finding coupons from 1998 under a portion of the pile she finally gave me the ok to sort through it.
I hadn't actually paid a lot of attention to it prior to 2008, but now I worry I'm going to do the same thing YIKES

@jaboUK , yes, as you say, we need to cherish our Mums while we can and that is more clear to me than ever. She is fighting through each obstacle, Janet, the Autumn night air is terrible for her lungs but she is one determined lady and is fighting on

I loved the poem; so beautifully penned @jaboUK Indeed yes, mothers and daughters have so much more in common than just looks. Alas! I don't have this idea as I have two sons whom I adore and they love me to the moon and back!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to you and your lovely daughter.
