Saga of the home produced turmeric powder

The process is pretty long winded - right from the time of planting to getting the powder is not an easy task. But it is all done and the powder is ready.
The raw turmeric when dried shrinks to 1:5 where 5 is the raw turmeric and one the dried turmeric. It has to dry completely so that it can be powdered easily.
Happy with the results.
What home produce do you have?

Yes, you are right that it takes time for turmeric to grow and then it takes further time to make it dry. After these processes, we get powdered turmeric. Sometimes we get the dried turmeric powdered through a automatic machine, held by the shopkeeper, otherwise we buy powdered turmeric.

I recommend that you buy dry turmeric and powder it at home. The powdered turmeric that one gets in the market cannot be trusted.

@allknowing Sometimes we buy dry turmeric and make it in powder form in the grinder at our home. However, due to paucity of time, sometimes we get the dry turmeric powdered in the market. You are right that powdered turmeric available in the market may not be of high quality.

Turmeric is supposed to have so many great health benefits. But I have read so many bad things about premade powders from the store (like having lead in them). So that's great you made your own (and from your own harvest!). I found some raw turmeric in the store for the first time the other week - I wouldn't even know what to do with it!
The only home produce we have for now are lemons, tangelos and oranges. We just pick and use .

@prashu228 Tangelos are a cross between tangerines and grapefruit. It is much more flavorful than a "regular" orange (there is almost never a "bad" tasting tangelo!).

We get turmeric powder in the market and as you said it is not pure. My mother used to buy dry turmeric and grind it with the other masala

I would just rather buy turmeric powder than make, we also always have turmeric tea powder ready besides the one we use for cooking. Oh home produce, we have a mango, carambola and balimbi tree in the front and back yard.

I have all those fruits in my garden and as you know many more. And as for turmeric powder that you get in the market there is no guarantee that it is not adulterated.

I just haad one one plant from my mother's garden and that plant produced a huge cluster of rhizomes. I separated them and within the next two years I had enough to cover rows of turmeric. I have help around and so that makes it easy.

I do not have anything I have grown to talk about at this time. I would say that it is great you grow your own, here in the US they find that much of the turmeric we buy commercially has other things in it that are not really good for us.

After spending our prime life in the city, we settled down in a semi rural town just to be with nature.
