I Don't Want To Sound Ungrateful but....

I think I've said this before and I've admitted that I don't have a green thumb. The only thing I have managed to keep alive is a Christmas cactus my aunt gave me a year or so ago. I think this cactus would probably be alive regardless and has thrived on it's own with no help from me.
So, for Mother's Day my son walks into the house with this beautiful orchid plant. Does he NOT know me? Of course the orchid is beautiful but as I look at it and read the instructions I know it's doomed. The instructions seem easy enough to keep it alive and now I feel all this pressure in regard to caring for this plant.
This morning I've moved the plant three times. It says keep it in bright light but not direct sun. I don't know if I've picked the right spot for my orchid but I hope it's happy. I'm already stressed
I know there are many of you plant/flower lovers here that would be happy to receive an orchid and belong to the green thumb club. I'm hoping to be able to say I've managed to keep this pretty orchid alive but we'll see.
As for my other Mother's Day gifts I didn't get anything else that needed to be kept alive!

@Marilynda1225 I was pretty scared too, I like to take care of the garden, but I never keep plants inside. The orchid was a gift from a friend of my husband, he gave it to me a little more than two years ago

I just killed my Christmas cactus! I had it on a table on top of the vent and I guess the A/C got it. good luck with the orchard. In Hawaii our landlord had an orchard garden - it was beautiful...we were not allowed to touch the flowers!

@Marilynda1225 Go to your local florist and ask for helpful hints. Usually the owners of florists know how to grow and take care of flowers too.

I know orchids require more care than I'm probably equipped to give but I'm going to give it my best shot.

There are types of orchids that are easier to keep than others, I don't know the climate there but just the same good luck to you

Yes it is definitely nerve racking and I have enough things to stress over without it being a plant

I bought myself a plant. I don't have a green thumb, but my indoor plants seem to do okay, so I'm trying out a plant called an Alocation or something like that. It has beautiful green leaves. I've never seen or heard of this plant before, so we'll see how I do with it.
I hope your orchid thrives.

The thought is always what counts and I'm grateful that my son even thought to buy a plant. But, knowing that I have no luck with plants etc he should have gotten some plastic flowers

My mother says I have a green thumb, but I don't think I do. I also have a Christmas Cactus. I hope you can get the orchid to live for a few days.

My Christmas cactus bloomed at Easter this year. Guess it's been very confused with the seasons

My heart sinks when I'm given plants as a gift. Like you, I know they are doomed from the moment they enter the house. It is only a matter of time before they succumb to something.

Just water it every few days and leave it by a window, it`ll be fine.

I am the same as you! I cannot keep a plant/flower alive if my life depended on it. Thank God I can handle kids and pets just fine!

Orchids are easier to take care of than most people think. Don't stress over it. It will be fine.
