Time After Time?

Yesterday I met up with a friend I hadn't seen in 18 years. We were in school together from 5th grade to finishing our sophomore year in high school. But when I was sixteen I went ahead and went to college. Two years later I went to her high school graduation since I knew so many of the kids graduating. So I literally had not seen her since then. We always kept in touch here and there, with Christmas cards, birthday cards, and an occasional e-mail. However, last week she asked if I wanted to meet for lunch. She lives in Missouri now, but her family is still here in Oklahoma. I was surprised, and actually kind of nervous. But we had a great two hour lunch. I think the servers were ready for us to just leave even though there were plenty of tables open. It was really nice to see her, and I filled her in on some of the other kids we went to school with. Most of them stayed in this area, and here and there I'll see them at a funeral (most of the kids also went to the same church, so we know a lot of the same people), or I'll see something on Facebook.
I have read recently about several of you meeting up with people you haven't seen in a long time. Are you always glad you went? I was glad I went. My back was killing me at the end of the two hours (since the accident years ago I have a hard time sitting for long periods), but I didn't even care.

Every so often I'll meet up with a girl I went to school with. We'll talk for hours and hours, but then we'll go months or years without so much as a text because we both get busy and caught up with our lives.

@AmbiePam Yeah.. she also has relationship problems, she keeps getting involved with men who won't allow her much of a personal life. She seems to think the current guy is so much better, but when I tried to get her to go to a bar with me she wasn't allowed to go without him.. and her aunt kept texting her all night to check in on her. The new boyfriend is very close with the aunt and uncle. In the end I had to go back to her place to hang out with him there, although he didn't bother us.

How wonderful you had this reunion with a childhood friend and you had a great time with her!!
Recently I saw on FB that an old co-worker was going to have a booth at a local art festival. He used to work with Hubby and I . . . and we were even classmates in college for a while. But we haven't actually seen him in about 30 years. So we decided to surprise him just by showing up . . . we had a great time catching up! We spoke for a long time - the art festival was actually a bust for the guy, but he said "we" were the best things that happened there for him all weekend . We were actually a bit nervous . . . we saw him but didn't actually get to his booth til we made the entire rounds of the festival - but yep, we're glad we went to say hi!

There is a friend I met on MySpace and had met in person once, but would love to get together with her again. Then, another friend who I haven't seen since 6th grade found me on Facebook. she is about 100 miles away, but we are hoping to meet up sometime soon.

@AmbiePam Yeah, a lot has been going on and I am not here as often, but I am on Facebook every day, though I might have to cut down on that as well.

One Halloween about 4 years ago, it was very warm so Hubby and I were sitting outside handing out candy. Two children came and after I gave them candy, someone came up and said something, and I recognized the voice from, oh gosh, 25 years ago? She had been my best friend growing up and the two little children were her grandchildren! She was back in the neighborhood visiting her mother and they decided to trick or treat in the area. It was so good to see her! I tried setting something up so we could get together and talk, but her life had gotten so busy that she just didn't have the time. But reconnecting was wonderful!

I've never been to a school reunion. I didn't have any friends except for one. She lived in Saratoga Springs NY and we were driving up to Lake George to visit a few days. She lives in Florida now. She made a comment when we visited. She said I was still a dunce. That told me she just played with me because there was no one else around.
It hurt my feelings and I said I never cared to see her again. She talks down to me if she messages by calling me hun or sweety. It upsets me. We used to be like sisters.

I went to a reunion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of finishing secondary grammar school (after that you can study at uni in Germany). It was nice but also shocking because I didn't recognise all my former classmates and not all of them recognised me. We had been together for nine years! Yet, half a century had passed. Of course, people change.

I have also experienced similar situation. I met a school friend of mine who I had fought with during graduation time. We never had got a chance to meet after that. I spoke with her and apologized. She just laughed and asked me not to recall that incidence. I am glad she is still the same, simple but fun loving girl I had met in my schooling period.

Glad you were able to meet your friend. Lunch is better when we can sit down and hear about other people we know from years ago.

I've been trying to have a reunion with my childhood friend. We haven't seen each other in a few years but if we can ever get together I know it will be fun

I always love meeting old friends. I have not seen two of my best friends in the neighborhood I grew up. Both are now abroad, one is in Australia and the other one is in Las Vegas. We, 3, were inseparable during our childhood days.
