OLDER THAN HIS YEARS?

Do you like beards?. My son whom I haven't seen in a month sent me a picture of himself via WhatsApp - and he seems to be growing a beard. I am okay with the thin mustache he already wears- but I am not too sure about the beard. When I see him this weekend face to face I'll decide if I like it or not.
Of course, whether I like it or not his girlfriend's opinion will be the decider of whether he keeps it or he doesn't. I don't really mind beards when they are short and neat like that worn by the guy in the picture above, but I think the bushy ones tend to make the wearer look a bit older than his years. Do you have any bearded family members ? and if the person is your boyfriend or spouse, would you prefer him bearded or clean -shaven?

Is this your son here?
If so he is very handsome.
I do not like beards in general.
But it looks fine in this case.

I don't like beards and my husband hasn't got one. So I'm not too touched by the problem.
A funny story: A German told me that he studied in China for some time. He had a full beard at that time. It helped him to always get a seat in public transport. People got up and offered him their seats when they saw him. Only old men have full beards in China. He wasn't even 25 years old then! :-)

No beards in my family. I think a beard will always make a person look older. If I had a girlfriend, I would prefer that she doesn't have a beard.

My brother has worn a beard for years and so have some of my men friends. I´d say it depends on the kind of beard

All my sons are bearded but attempts to influence them to get rid of them have failed so I just accept it now. I guess they are young and they want to look older - that will change when they get older

In my case I think my son should grow a beard. His face is kind of heavy and I think he would look better with one. It is up to them of course.

@Kandae11 I disagree, I think beards give the face a slimming look.

All the cool musicians in the 1970s had beards, so I grew to like them. Right now I'm going with the scruffy greying beard look. But that' mostly just laziness. You son looks very Middle Eastern! But I think the beard looks OK on him.

@Kandae11 I forgot to mention that my son (that is doing the renovation) also has one! Ha ha! I never even think about them. They become part of the personality.

Yes, beards or even a mustache can add years to the looks of a younger man.
When I met my husband and until now, he already had his thin mustache. I saw him without it only in his high school pictures and for me he looks good without it.
But he won't ever remove the mustache. he he he

We're American. But my son has a lot of Arab friends. We joke and tell him to shave his beard because he looks like "one of them". Even his Arab friends joke with him about it. They call him "the brother from another mother".
I saw a movie once where this man painted his skin to look like he was a black man. He got in trouble with his black friends and his father had to pick him up from the jailhouse. His dad took one look at his son's face and asked: "What? It's not hard enough to be a Jew?"
That's the similar joke with my son. I'm like: "It's not hard enough being a black man in America? You have to be a black American man who looks like he's from the Middle East?"
