A disappointing words only sign that ought to use a portrait of the young Princess. It is a pub named after the second daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who lived between 1843 and 1888, when she died of Diphtheria. She was a very active supporter of Crimean War field hospitals and the work of Florence Nightingale. A Thames Pleasure Cruiser and paddle steamer named after her sank in a collision on the river with a large dredger in 1865 killing over 650 passengers. It was very similar in circumstances to the Marchioness disaster in 1989 which killed 51 revellers. A decent pub that ought to make more of its history. Arthur Chappell

@JohnRoberts I don't tend to complain to such pubs about their less interesting signs - maybe I should lol but they might not let me drink there again

Yes, they should make more of the history. Nightingale was such a heroin.

That's an interesting little bit of history. I like it when pub names have real meaning and I get really annoyed when someone changes a historic pub name!

I agree, it looks kind of bare with only the name.
