May 18, 2017 2:32am CST
Hi everyone. Planning to lose few pounds. I have been suggested to drink lot of water. I usually drink when I am thirsty not otherwise. Let me know if really this technique of drinking 8 to 10 glasses will help me lose weight. This will help with water retension problem itseems. Is this true?

Actually yes water helps you also by making you NOT AS hungry because it fills your stomach. but it helps keeps your organs working optimally as well. there is such a thing as drinking TOO much water though.. and you have to replace you electrolytes if you drink a lot. some things flush from your system too fast when you drink a lot.

I have heard somewhere. The trick may be, if you drink lot of water then you can't eat much, naturally the intake of calories and fats will be less. This will lead to lose weight. This is my theory and I may be wrong.

I think losing weight will goes to have exercise and eat a well-balanced diet. Water retention can be possible if we overhydrated.

No..this 8 to 10 glasses of water is meant for early morning. As soon as you get you should take a liter of water. This will improve the health. this is what I do. Some people suggest taking a glass of Lemon water with a spoon of honey.

I actually drink as soon I wake up. I have my breakfast a little late because of this. I will try to add in some lemon and honey. Thanks for your suggestion!

For some people it does and for some, it doesn't. I have drunk nothing but water, fresh fruit natural smoothies, and milk for 3 years and it has done nothing for me weight wise but I feel a lot better and have a lot more energy when I drink nothing but water. I do drink flavored water but not the fake flavored waters. I use real fruit for my flavored water. Most just eating a well-balanced meal and exercising daily is the only successful way to lose weight. Healthy is a lifestyle change not a few weeks type thing. I was told by several of my nutrition professors that you should only drink when you are thirsty and if you aren't thirsty don't drink. Whenever you feel hungry drink a glass of water first because some people confuse hungry with being dehydrated and then over eat.

Maybe I am one of them. When I feel hungry I go and have something but I am going to stop doing this. I will drink water and wait to see if I still feel hungry.

I don't think so - 8 to 10 glasses of water should be your normal intake. Though i have heard about water therapy for weight loss, but that includes about 10 liters of water intake daily.

10 litres is like too much I think. I am aiming to drink 8-10 glasses for now. Then if I see any difference I will try to drink more than that :)

No, it is not true if you do not change your eating habits. Of course to drink water is better than to drink sodas, but I suggest never to drink if you do not feel thirsty.

I'm not aware of any study regarding the question; what I know is that propewr diet and exercise may reduce your weight.
19 May 17
hi Stephen. I also agree with you but in my case I tend to get hungry after exercising which makes me grab some chips or juice that would have lot of calories. So I wanted to try drinking warm water to lose weight.
