How do you remember words?

Vocabulary

I wonder how sometimes I can remember a word I hardly ever use, years after learning it for the first time, yet I forget those I came across recently and actually wish to remember. This is especially true for non-native speakers. Do you face the same kind of trouble, how do you try to remember your words? Is there some kind of trick or strategy?

I have noticed that as I get older, it is more difficult to remember everything.

No I don't have any trick up my sleeve to remember things, words, stuff. I only forget it when I am stressed which makes my head heavy.

I have used at times the cards and put the word on one side and the meaning on the other but doesn't always help me.

I tend to use the new words in my own sentences. I tried to have a small notebook before. I used to put the new words, meanings, and sentences.

@leenigme Whenever I come across a new English word,I consult a dictionary or the Internet to know it's meaning and then try to use it in the discussions I start on mylot and in my responses and comments on other discussions.
