“Can You Live A Simple Life?”

If you have the chance to live with the local tribes in Kalinga Philippines, you can able to appreciate simple things in life. The local tribes’ lifestyle is not complicated as we experienced in the city. They have their basic necessity within their area. They have water to use, consume rice harvested from their paddies and other crops for personal consumption. I had lived with the local tribes for almost one year. I never thought I can live with simplicity. I am a city boy and never been away from the city that long. I had enjoyed living with them and had learned so many things from them. “Are you willing to live a simple life?” Image Credit: Shavkat

I sometimes think it would be nice to return to such simple living. Then I keep telling myself, I like my home comforts.

I agree. The internet in the mountain is poor. I cannot live without a good internet service provider. Let me share a simple way how children live in the mountain of Kalinga. Image Credit: Shavkat

@Shavkat When we were in the Karen village we would be woken every morning by the women crushing rice in a similar method.

@cacay1 I can say you have a point. Some people claimed that there are NPAs in the mountains. Hopefully, I haven't encountered them.

@Shavkat it is so risky to live like this time because of terrorism. They like to hide in the mountains. I seem cannot live like this in loneliness. I am used to live in complicated ways

I think it is the best getaway experience to escape from the busy life in the city. When I had experienced it, I was able to see some rice terraces made by the local tribes. Image Credit: Shavkat

I live a part time simple life, as we spend three months of the year at my husbands family home which is a very traditional old style house, but not quiet the same as living with the the local tribes in Kalinga Philippines, My Egyptian family are fully self sufficient growing crops and rearing their own animals, they have stayed more or less living the same lifestyles their Grandparents lived. I really enjoy staying with them but three months a year is enough for me,

When I was a young kid, I usually spend my summer vacation in the local province. I had tried to live in a nipa hut. It is quite bigger than in this picture. Image Credit: Shavkat

Willing isn't the word for me because i prefer to live a simple life. It may not be living in a place or house like in those pictures you've posted but simple enough for me to live a peaceful life.

I agree. We can live a simple life, not in a particular place. I had experienced living in Kalinga with a purpose. I had helped the local tribes to implement their community project under the local government agency. I took advantage of living with simplicity. Image Credit: Shavkat

I had tried living for 3 months in a very remote sitio (smaller part of a barrio) in the remote island of Antique, Southern Philippines in between the sea, river and mountains, and I loved it and I could survive there and blend with the locals but that was before I had kids. Can't do it now because the children go to school and money is hard on those places, only food is easy

It is nice to be single.lol I can still do it, my friend. I think you can still do it once the kiddies are grown ups. I also have the same feeling of being free while living with the local people in Kalinga. Image Credit: Shavkat

I think you can do it, my friend. When I was in Tajikistan, I don't have internet connection for a year. I had lived without it. At that time, I was able to think for myself and refrain from having any distractions. In Kalinga, I had tried to be as simple as possible. The local tribes taught me to appreciate simple things in life. I had learned to appreciate their way of living and still, they managed to stay happy. Image Credit: Shavkat

I can live a simple life, but I like the comforts of my home. I would not like to wash my clothes manually as my ancestors did.

That's nice you can still do that. When I was living with the local tribes, I also washed my clothes manually. I think it is better to know and apply what's life being simple before. I also remembered my mom used to wash clothes at the riverside before. Image Credit: Shavkat

i lived a simple life when there was no electricity yet here in the barrio, in 1972. then when we were the very first family to have the black and white television, all the children in our neighborhood would watch, and our door was filled with so many pairs of slippers. now that technology is giving the life easy and comfortable, i still like to go back too simple living.

I had experienced that scene in my granny's hometown. Some of the neighbors love to watch on a single black and white TV in the house. As a city boy, I was so surprised seeing them in the window. I had enjoyed experiencing this. We can eat some fruits while chatting with the neighbors.lol Image Credit: Shavkat

Where is your hometown? I do agree that it is so troublesome during a typhoon in the local provinces of the Philippines. In the mountain, there is no flood but the wind and rain are so heavy.lol The good thing some of the villages have their footpath. It will not be slippery while hiking back to the village or going down from the village. Image Credit: Shavkat

I do agree that giving the luxurious lifestyle is difficult. It is also a matter of choice to what kind of lifestyle we wanted. We don't need to for ourselves. It is a free will. Image Credit: Shavkat
