In a Muslim country, it is said to be the strict rule of not to eat pork meat. It is the forbidden meat to be consumed by the local people. When I was in Tajikistan, I though it is possible to live without pork meat in my system. The reality check had come to realize when staying in the country for about 2 months. OMG! I am craving to eat grilled pork meat. The feeling of dying and praying to God to give miracles.lol
The best thing I can do is to find an alternative meat. I had found the skewered lamb meat called “shashlik.” It tastes like in seventh heaven and imagining that I am having a proper meal for the day.
Have you tried to eat “shashlik”?

@lovinangelsinstead21 During this time, I usually eat "shashlik" with some fried potatoes. I think it is a perfect combo.

When I had tasted "shashlik", I felt not easy at first. Lamb meat is not common in the Philippines. But then, I can see the local people in Tajikistan love munching it. So I tried and in some way, I like it. In terms of pork meat, I love grilled pork meat barbecues.

I can't imagine what you've gone through. I can tolerate not eating meat for months. But then if I wanted to I can just go to a store a buy some. No need to pray anymore.
I have tried mutton, I didn't like the taste of it. I think lamb is much better.

In fact I enjoy eating beef and seafood much more. I don't eat pork so much. Although I am not quite sure about what is shashlik, but I think I may eat the similar. Sometimes I will buy the frozen lamb and I will bake it with cumin and it tastes really good.

I have not heard of Shaslik, but the long skewers remind me of Shiska Bob. I imagine I could live without pork..and most meat, but not entirely. I would have to have something.

We don't eat a lot of pork. It's not a religious prohibition. We just try to avoid it as a matter of being more health conscious. We also avoid eating beef.

@cmoneyspinner I do think that during the pre-historic days. They are not aware of such limitations. Now, it is a good thing that we have the choice not to eat any kinds of meat or continue to eat because of the people accustomed to it.

@Shavkat - I believe everything God gave us is good and to be received with thanksgiving. Pork can't be that bad because there are people in other parts of the world that have it almost every day. They live to be about the same age as people who don't eat pork. But we can't ignore our own genetic make-up. Whereas one person can eat something and it doesn't bother them. Another person might eat the same thing and it causes heart problems, high blood pressure, etc. So! In my family we try to avoid pork and beef.

I used to eat pork before I got married to someone that doesn't consume it for religious purposes. I am from Belarus and eat shashlik, or as they call it here shish kebab, plenty. But instead of a pork one I eat the chicken or lamb ones, sometimes even veal liver ones. If they are not overcooked they are so good.

I love pork meat, but I don´t crave much any sort of meat. Lamb would be a wonderful alternative.
