My name was on it

I’m not really fond of big social gatherings. I like going out with friends or in small groups but going to a ‘biggest morning tea’ in Donnybrook is not really my ideal way to spend a morning. However a friend managed to extract a promise that I’d go and it was to raise funds for cancer research so off I went this morning albeit with some reluctance.
Entry was by donation. You helped yourself to tea, coffee and a range of goodies then enjoyed a fashion parade put on by the local frock shop with local ladies as models. There were also about 30 different articles/vouchers which were raffled. For $5 you bought three tickets, wrote your name on them then went looking at the goodies which were up for grabs.
In front of each item was a container. Once you’d chosen your three preferences, you put your ticket into the containers in front of your choices. I was taken with a little home-made dress, suitable for a 5-6 year old. This SOOOO had my name on it as we intended to buy a little dress for our foster grandchild who we’ll be visiting in Austria later in the year. She has just turned five. And sure enough, the fates conspired and I won the dress.
Blow me down, I also won the door prize which was a lovely crystal serving tray ideal for biscuits and cheese, pate, etc. I felt a bit bad for being disgruntled at having to attend. Next time I’ll go with more good grace. About 140 ladies attended and $2,600 was raised over the morning. The photo of the dress which also has matching shorts. I am pretty pleased at the moment.

I hope the little girl likes it. Sometimes they have very firm ideas about what they like, don't they?

@hereandthere The clothes modelled were winter clothes for sizes 12 and up. Here is a photo of a lady modelling a winter tunic. There was jackets, blouses, skirts and slacks and later a local collection of felt garments made from merino wool and silk. That included some really nice scarves.

That's what I thought! Once I saw it and the sign '5-6 year old' I thought 'that's been put there for me!'. The fashion show probably wasn't what you're thinking. It was designed for country ladies and mostly older ones at that so although there were nice clothes there wasn't anything outlandish or mouth-dropping.

I like the dress set... I'm sure your foster grandchild will too ... that was a good amount raised by you all and a novel way of doing the raffle... I might borrow that idea for our dog charity ...

I thought it was a really good way of doing the raffle. Some items were particularly popular but those who were keen on the item had a better chance of winning with this method. There were some big items like a ceiling fan, a hour's labour from a garage, a hair-dryer, etc and if you don't need these things, you don't really want to win them. So in that way it was a good idea. There probably weren't too many who wanted the dress which was good for me.

The only reason it had your name on it is because it wasn't red and white. If it were red and white, it would had my name on it!

It's been made nicely hasn't it. There is a bow at the back and I like the pockets too. Maybe she'll put frogs in them or seashells.
