Crochet. Nice stress relief, but if you get it wrong can cause huge amount of stress

I really enjoy crochet. I'd like to know how to knit, but I have not been successful at it when I tried. I know that there are many more contemporary patterns for knitting so I'm sure I'll try to learn again someday, but for now I really enjoy my crochet.

I am in the same boat as dollface. I crochet because I can't knit. I have been taught the very basics twice in my life but it did not stick. The biggest problem for me is keeping those stitches on the needles. It sure would be nice to do both. Sometimes I see really cute patterns I want to try before I realize that they are knit. Anyone else learn to knit after 40? Maybe there is still hope for me, lol. Oh well, there are cute crochet patterns too.

I love both. I use them together and I use them seperately. I love freeform. I'm making a freeform butterfly jacket. I knit or crochet almost every day. I taught the little girl next door how to knit. Then her mom wanted to learn so I taught her too. I make hats for preemies to give to the hospital. I'd love to get better at sock knitting. Right now I'm crocheting a granny square scarf.

I really like both. But my favorite would be crochet. I learned to knit first, for some reason my left hand would get numb (it was probably my tension) and I would freak out when I dropped a stitch and had to fix it. I tried crochet next and loved it. I loved being able to finish a scarf or hat in 2 days max! And I loved how easy it was to fix a mistake - just frog it- rip, rip! I do love the feel of knit though. They are both great.

I can do both knittting and crocheting but I prefer to crochet. I suppose because you are only using one hook it is simpler. I used to make lacy doilies but found it very time consuming and you can buy one that looks just like it for $1.00 at walmart. I am making afghans at the moment. I have several requests for christmas.

isn't it a shame that things that used to be so cherished for the time and effort have become such cheap objects in stores?...i would still prefer a homemade one..thanks for the response

I do crocheting and have for years. I prefer it simply because I have never been able to learn how to knit. If I were able to learn knitting I might enjoy that more. Crocheting is pretty easy and can turn out some really nice projects.

I taught myself to do both. I prefer to crochet because it goes faster (I need instant gratification, lol) and I find the patterns are more complicated with the pattern stitches which holds my attention longer. But I also like to knit because I love the look of knit sweaters, especially for my son. Crocheted items don't look good for a boy. Well not the ones with the fancy shell stitches. I made a really cute crocheted sweater from my baby girl that would look just as good on a boy. It was just a straight single crochet, switching between colors every two rows. I used white and bright green. She is about to outgrow it so I'm going to make another one in a bigger size.

I love crochet and knitting equally, I must admit. However, I love them both for different reasons!
Crochet makes more heavily weighted pieces, which is wonderful for winter hats, scarves, and I absolutely love amigurimi in crochet! Plus you only have one active loop, so I tend to make a lot less mistakes, and if I do make a mistake, it's much easier to rip out to the point of the mistake without dropping loops and essentially having to start over.
However, knitting is essential when you're making items like gloves, sweaters, anything that needs a bit of extra stretch to it, or if you're trying to showcase a certain type of yarn or color pattern. It gives a softer, finer fabric than crochet, uses less yarn than crochet, and you can do some really amazing things once you start to learn!
I like to incorporate elements of both into the other, as well. For example, I often do a crocheted edge around the bottom of sweaters, or will knit i-cord ties for a crocheted garment that needs a stronger tie than a crochet cord. I will also use the crochet slip stitch method for binding off a knit garment occasionally, as well.

I love both but I prefer to knit, perhaps because I'm much better in knitting than in crocheting. As for next, I'd like to try freeform, I saw wonderful things in freeform by internet.
