SAFE AT MYLOT.

I keep hearing of writing sites shutting shop, leaving unpaid , disgruntled members - and I can't help wondering what went wrong. Is it that the market has become too competitive ? or the founders lack business sense?. Of course, an over abundance of plagiarists and scammers could also contribute to the downfall of a site.
After my Bubblews experience, I was skeptical of joining any other site until I was introduced to Mylot. And right now, I am not interested in any other - I feel safe here. It would be nice to get a sense of why some of these writing sites close - while others weather the storms and keep moving from strength to strength. Any ideas?

Bubblews was mismanaged and they were deceitful towards the members. I enjoy mylot too and the wonderful writers on here! I do hope that it does not fold like the others have!

Mylot has been around for a long time. I learned about Bubblews, from being on mylot.

Wrote for myLot before and then this site stopped paying. Change in business direction. No problem though as I kept writing here but not as often as when they were paying. Moved to the 'B' site. Got paid there but I knew something was off with that site. i was glad to get paid but I knew that the business model that they have was too good to be true to continue. True enough, they folded.
Moved to another site, PersonaPaper. Now, that site was better than the 'B' site in terms of the quality of posts and content. they paid as well but sadly, it had stopped paying as well.
Went back to myLot to catch up with old online friends. Glad that the site started paying again.

@Kandae11 seriously? Members buying cars with their payments? Wow!

@allen0187 Maybe the cars weren't brand new - but new to the buyer. There was one member who claimed he was owed $800 .

I see other are saying what I was going to say, Bubblews mismanaged the site and paid us way too much to keep them afloat, I love it here and this is the only place I am using. I've tried other but they bored me....

@Ruby3881 I agree with you 100%, it was fun while it lasted and I knew it wasn't going to last, but the large amounts of money was fun while it lasted..

I have seen many sites come and go but I believe in the saying - make hay while the sun shines. myLot stopped paying once and hopefully this will not happen again.
And as far as Bubblews is concerned I was paid well there.

@Kandae11 Bubblews paid attention to reporting by certain members and ignored the rest and that was their undoing. The site should not have ignored reporting done by others. somehow sites tend to have trust in some users for reasons best known to them.

@allknowing Can't seem to escape that - it is a human failing which is found everywhere.

It definitely is an online thing. Problem with basically starting a business with virtually no money if you look at it that way. Where in the offline world you pretty much have to get a loan from rich people and you better believe they are going to try their hardest to make sure you do not fail because they want a return on their investment.
Many places online are poorly run and are the very same people that promise get rich schemes to get people to join them and that is why they end up with so many scammers joining their sites. Which is pretty much what happened to Bubblews if you think about.
The difference with Bubblews is they either had a lot of money saved up or did indeed have investors also, by the way they started paying so much in the beginning and how much money they put into always changing the website.
It all eventually came to a head when they realized they were paying people way more than they could afford and that is when they chose to start only paying certain people and not others, raising the withdrawal cap, and lowering what people made per post with comments, likes, and stopped paying for views altogether.

@Kandae11 Probably went with the most popular people that brought in most views and comments and such. I also was noticing a bias to posts that had to do anything with Trump there towards the end. People say that was in my head, but anyone who wrote about Trump in a positive light was always in their featured section or what ever they called it. I cannot remember. That is how long our election cycles are. Seems like forever ago.

I feel safe with Mylot and I'm happy here which is why i will stick with this site only. I don't want to be disappointed like I was when Bubblews went down.

Bubblews made the mistake of paying too much and they ran their business into the ground, is my guess.

I went from Bubblews to here but have no desire to look for any other sites. I'm comfortable here and hope this place remains in business for a long time

I feel safe here as well, and have no interest in joining other writing sites. I assume that some have bad business sense, and others are just scammers. Did you ever see that eerily prophetic Bubblews video of Bubblews writers on a sort of conveyor belt, being led to the slaughterhouse?

I did write at many that shut down so I am breaking from the people who do not have business sense, seems to me that they change/update the site an right after they will crash.
I have my own non paying blog that I am building, I am learning how to make my own money blogging, cut out the middleman.

I suspect a lot of it has to do with a good vs. less well thought out business plan--but that is purely supposition on my part

Wikinut is also still in existence but they no longer pay writers either. My balance there was very tiny so not getting paid wasn't that big a deal. I still keep all my articles there though I don't post anything new. I log in to the site from time to time and I see that I get views pretty much every day. Not huge views but still they are views and I am not even active there. Interesting...

@artner I cannot bother with sites which cause me too much stress.Maybe I would be forced to if I had no alternative, but right now my main purpose for writing is to be able to share my views with a wide audience. I also learn, meet people from all over - and of course, earn a little.

Just to add my ten cents. I have written for the forum wheel now for a few weeks. Cashed out twice via PayPal and was paid within two days each time. The minimum cash out is $5.
The site insists you complete ten test posts that they evaluate you on before you are allowed to post. The process is ridiculously complicated and your rating from the ten posts determines which forums you can post to.
The problem they have is in term of the forums they offer. The selection is very limiting and the topic choices few and far between unless you have specialised knowledge.
The other problem is an ethical one. Should paid posters be allowed on a site that deals with depression. I know writers are a sad lot, but come on. The number of fabricated stories I see on the site via the writers avatars gives me cause for concern.

It will be interesting to hear what others say. I had a great experience at Bubblews and always got paid. They paid well too. MyLot is safe but doesn't pay much. I really am here for fun rather than money anyway.

@Jeanniemaries I think those who missed out were those who had to wait over three or four months for a payment. The last payment I received was during the period when the payment system was changed - so instead of getting around $40, I ended up with $3. You were one of the lucky ones.
