~He Has Shingles!~

Some bad news...my husband has shingles. He's been in pain for days, unsure why and the rash devloped a couple of days ago. =( It itches him but he's in more pain than anything else. Gosh I feel so bad for him. He's been through enough health issues, my poor husband. He has a very low immune system, lack of energy and a lot of stress so not surprised he got this... I'm hoping he will feel better soon. Please keep him in your prayers too.

I will pray for God's healing for your husband. Poor fella, I know that can be so painful. He might be too young for the vaccine, but ask his doctor about it when he gets well.

@1creekgirl Thank you, he needs it. Yeah I don't know if he will be able to get it but he can ask. He has a very low immune system, has had it since he was born. =(

You have to be over 50 years old to get the vaccine. I got Shingles last year, and I was begging my doctor for the shot. He told me he couldn't administer it until I turned 50.

@moffittjc Wow, that's stupid since you can get shingles at a younger age.

Your husband seems like one of those people that this saying applies to. If it weren't for bad luck he'd have no luck at all.

@LadyDuck My doc told me that if it attacks the eyes it has to be seen within 72 hours, otherwise it could be very dangerous for the eye.

@LovingMyBabies I know how painful it is. When I had shingles and I went to my Doctor he said he was glad that it has not developed from more than three days, it is easier to treat it. Good luck to your husband.

Oh, no! It's just one thing after another, isn't it? I hope he's able to get some relief from the symptoms soon. The pain is supposed to be pretty bad. Keep an eye on your little guys, too. If they're not fully vaccinated for chicken pox they can catch it from a person who has an active shingles outbreak. Both shingles and chicken pox are caused by the same virus. It can take anywhere from 10-21 days for symptoms to show up, unfortunately.

@LovingMyBabies That's so tough to deal with. Is there any way he can get into urgent care before his next day off? If not, maybe he could try taking turmeric supplements in the meantime. Part of shingles' symptoms is the virus causing inflammation, and turmeric seems to be effective for reducing inflammation. I've been taking it for a few weeks for my fibromyalgia pain with pretty good results. It hasn't replaced the prescriptions I'm taking, but it's definitely helped cut down my pain levels in conjunction with them. I went from taking 3-4 of the prescription pain pills a day to 1-2 within a few days of starting them. So maybe it would help whatever OTC pain relievers he's taking be more effective at least until he can get in and see a doctor. Huge hugs to you both. Having to deal with this really stinks.

I'm so sorry that he has the shingles. I had them last summer, it was the third time. I will keep him in my prayers! Painful hardly describes them, you can go out of your mind they hurt so much. I hope that they don't last too long and that he can keep himself busy to keep his mind off of the pain-its hard. I found that when I took the pain killers that my doctor prescribed it took longer to get over them.

Shingles should be treated immediately. I had shingles in my left eye a few years ago and I know how painful it is. Make sure that your husband goes to see the doc NOW, IMMEDIATELY IF NOT SOONER.

@LovingMyBabies So glad that your husband is going to consult TODAY. He must be in terrible pain, you are going to have to be extremely nice with him and so are the kids. He might not be in the best mood. But it is not his fault. I feel bad for him knowing how bad that pain can be.

I can relate to his pain Mine centered on my forehead and scalp and affected my vision for a time. The pain was so severe it brought me to tears! Like a root canal with no surgery to relieve it. Could not sleep because the pressure of the pillow increased my pain Thank goodness time eventually heals the symptoms and reoccurrence is less likely.

@LovingMyBabies It is a terrible illness Anyone over 50, the vaccine shot should definitely be considered and side effects are minimal if you get any at all. Wish I had gotten one, but was not aware or educated about it at the time.

He needs to take time off from work and recover. He is contagious for one. Secondly, he won't get better if he is not allowing his body to rest and fight the virus. Keep him away from Josiah and Julian as they can get chicken pox from him. I'm assuming your other children have gotten the chicken pox vax already.

@NJChicaa We can't afford for him to take off work. I read about it online and it says when the blisters burst it's contagious. It's not to that stage yet. Julian had his chicken pox shot and so have the older kids. The only one that hasn't yet is Josiah. And he's not going near him.

Hi. I can relate to that I had it back in 2013. It is very painful and rash all over. It can burn and itching it just makes it worse. I hope you were able to get medication for it from the doctor. I did and was layed up in bed for a week. The rash took about a month to be gone. I pray for your husband to get well and for you too to be able to get some rest. God bless.
