Filling the pillbox: tasks of old age.

I remember that many years ago, when my mother in law was old, we´d go with my husband to visit her during the weekend and we would fill her pill box. She had one of those in which you could put the pills needed for a whole week. My husband took that job after he discovered that even though his brother lived 3 houses away from her, He did not have the imagination to go and check what my MIL was doing. And sometimes she got confused and did not take her pills when she should. Time goes by quickly and in the last 15 or 20 years, I have to fill a pillbox with my meds every week. Only it does not look as though I only have to do it once a week. The pillbox gets empty so quickly that it seems there´s an evil elf taking them. Lately, the years go by quickly, the months of the year fly and the monthly bills need payment in what it seems it´s less than a month. If you don´t believe me, check your pillbox if you have one. One day it is filled, the next day it is empty Do you feel as I do?

@Courtlynn Still, I think that we go more to the doctor as we age and take more pills. There are exceptions though.

One of my tasks at work is to check to see if my client's are taking their meds or assist them with their meds. Sometimes I find that they didn't take evening meds or are late with their morning meds. The only people who can fill the client's med boxes are LPN's or RN's, or if they have family or friends who can fill them. I cannot do it for them.

@marguicha that is why only the nurses can do this.

@ElusiveButterfly When I went to stay at the hospital, I had to tell my doctor there about the pills I usually take so that she would tell the nurses.

Filling a pillbox means a lot of responsibility. If we don´t do it right, it can be very dangerous.

I have been using a pillbox for me for several years now. It is easier, in the long run, if you are taking several pills.

I also anticipate that I am going to have pills in the future. My granny at 99 doesn't usually have a lot of pills at present. I hope I will be like her.

I hope so. In my case, I don´t have high pressure as the rest of my close family have, but I need other pills.

Somewhat. Just the other day I was sitting here wondering where on earth the first five months of 2017 have gone... but we've been so busy since getting notice we had to move that it really isn't too surprising that the time is flying by right now. Filling the pillbox isn't something exclusively reserved for the elderly, though. I think I'm up to about 8-10 things that I take every morning, but only two are actual prescriptions. The others are an assortment of supplements and vitamins that my doctors have recommended I try and that have shown pretty good results.

@yukimori The box divided the pills in 4 compartments. I use the 2 last ones for dinner as I take more pills at dinner.

@marguicha Does yours divide the pills up by time of day, too? Those are so convenient, even if they are a bit bigger than the ones that just hold all the pills you need for a day.

I know a few younger people that take more pills than anyone I know. One because she might not be here otherwise.

There are exceptions, of course. But there are several ailment that come with age. There are people who start with diabetes or with high pressure after a certain age and become chronic patients.

@lovinangelsinstead21 I´m not sure that we ate bad. Younger people now eat junk food, too much sweets and lots of carbs. When I was a child, it was milk (with tea or coffee), bread and butter and with luck homemade jam or eggs. Instead of pies for dessert we ate juit of the season. And we ate cazuelas and legumes.

@marguicha An alarming amount of women younger than us have all kinds of problems. I don´t know what is going one sometimes as we used to eat pretty bad and we are still here to tell the story.

I really surprise why people think like that. This is a vast world. Nobody is alone. But, everybody is feeling lonely. They will be worrying about something or the other. Don't think about the past but try to live in the present. These are the days we have to live in.
