Did You Miss Out On "National Donut Day"

Free donuts...What!!! That's right, the first Friday in June is celebrated as National Donut Day. It's actually not a made-up food holiday. Donut Day originated in 1938 as a way to honor women who gave soldiers donuts during World War I. You can credit the Chicago Salvation Army for thinking up a great way to "load up on carbs."
Actually, the history behind this wonderful food holiday was inspired by women serving our soldiers free donuts and coffee on the front lines during World War I and again in World War II (thanks ladies). If you missed out this year, here are a list of the places you can get free food on "National Donut Day."
1. Entenmann's- free donuts and taste tests. "yes"
2. Dunkin Donuts- free donut of their choice with any beverage purchase.
3. Krispy Kreme- 1 donut per cusomer any kind.
4. The Salvation Army- free donuts to anyone who stops in there.
I've just circled that day on my calendar for next year. I've got quite a few Dunkin Donuts nearby I can visit, and I'm sure I can GPS an Entenmann's somewhere in my area, yum.

I was going to stop by if it wasn't on the way to the post office but it was so I skipped out :)

@dgobucks226 I took advantage of the deal last year though :) Works out since I'm trying a new diet so I'm glad I didn't take part but did have a slight craving!

@infatuatedbby Yep, not healthy and certainly not something on anyone's diet list. Good for you. You resisted the urge

@dgobucks226 oh! ok it makes much more sense of where this day came from. I like how it has a meaningful background story to it because I was starting think it was just....dumb. I swear there are way too many days celebrating something just for the hell of it. But this day has a nice touch to it.

As you say Dani, many are just kind of made up weird holidays. I usually put them under Fun Posts.

DB, those donuts in the picture look so good. I missed National Donut Day. We do not have Dunkin Donuts here. They were maybe thinking of checking out opening one here in Israel. Have not heard anymore.

DB, there is one bakery I like so much that when I can get there I stock up on things and put them in the freezer for when I want to eat them. I cannot eat the whole thing so eat in pieces.

I like an occasional donut Hanni! Having tried both Duncan and Krispy Kreme I prefer the latter one. Do you have a favorite pastry similar to donuts you enjoy?
