I think that all depends on the individuals. To some people it does and to others it doesn't.

Traditions and rituals that are unique to a family keeps the family together. Now that my children are grown and have families and lives of their own, I try to maintain some traditions, especially during the holidays. They now use the same traditions that I have done in the past.

I have found that, post-divorce and all, my kids derive a lot of security from our family rituals. The key I have found is being flexible to adapt the rituals as events and circumstances change. If the rituals are dynamic like this they can still provide a sense of continuity and stability in a pretty crazy world.
