Mobile telephone morons!

This afternoon when on my way back home from the supermarket. I stupid guy around 20 years old walked straight off the pavement into the road. He never looked where he was going or if any traffic was coming his way.
He was so engrossed in texting on his phone that he was not aware of anything going on around him. It is so stupid and moronic to witness people who are so engrossed in their phones they are totally unaware of their surroundings.
Fortunately for him I slammed on my brakes and missed him by around a foot. What an idiot. It really makes me so angry that people are obsessed with their phones which puts not only themselves at risk but others too.
I saw a short video only yesterday of a woman walking along the pavement (Sidewalk) engrossed in using her phone only to fall into a delivery hole outside a hotel. She actually fell over the cover into the hole.
I think it is about time people took responsibility for the accidents they cause or are fined for being such an idiot. I am witnessing this happening more and more these days. Nearly everyone using their phones and not looking where they are going. It is stupid beyond belief.
What do you think?

I also think what are they thinking?
I could not possibly function in that manner.
I never take my eyes off of anything when I am outside.
Glad you were quick reflexes Gary..could have been nasty and it would have been his fault too.

I think my wife was angrier than I was as I guess I was driving and concentrating on what I was doing. She did not think much of him I can tell you!

I stop when I'm on my mobile. Trying to walk at the same time is stupid (let alone drive - or ride a bike, and I've seen plenty of people doing that). I read a story where someone on a mobile walked off a pier and fell into the sea. They take up too much of your concentration to attempt something else at the same time.

I know that many places across the world are adopting the "no phones while driving" thing. This is all well and good, and SHOULD be done. However, I think that it should be a law that no phones should be used in or around traffic.
It's not just in or around traffic though. I go to the grocery store to get food, or even while working, and half the people within are stopping to look at their phones.
They'd save so much more time if they would get off of social media and shop. They also wouldn't be in everyone else's way.

@garymarsh6 It would be nice if most public / common areas had ground rules / regulations about phones. Especially in situations where people are having to line up. It's already a hassle to stand in line, but for people to use their phone to the point of distraction.
For me, it's not so much a matter of them using their phone. It's the fact that the majority of people aren't able to multi task.

I think in New Jersey they are thinking of making it an offence and could fine people! GOod job too. It is so rude and ignorant in shops!

I saw that same video, what is wrong with people. If I have to text I stop and sit down and then resume what I am doing, it is hard enough to keep track of what is going on around you with all your attention focused on it.

I agree. I can't do that and walk at the same time. It does annoy me.

Yeah, I agree. Well one serious accident will probably cure them of that problem. Hopefully, it isn't a fatal one!

I also text, but not while walking, as I am an accident waituing to happen, and it would be like me to walk off a curb and fall down on my behind. I think it is dumb to text whie walking, as they can walk into people as well. I don't mind people texting, but they should do it responsibly and not do it while walking anything else. If they want to text, then they should at least stop and complete the text and walk on, or not text at all. It is mainly young kids that are doing most of the texting, They even text in school and that sure isn't right. Teens are just not responsible enough to have a cell phone. At least soe aren't anyway.

I wish the police would arrest these idiots. They are not just a danger to themselves but also to everyone who is driving and trying to miss them.
I rarely text, if I want to write something I use my PC not my cell.

I read a quote once but I don't remember where or who said it but it said "smart phones make stupid people". The more technology advances the more it seems that humans do not. We are a world that is way to dependant on technology to get us through life.

well in SA there is a slogan - Dont Text and drive, stay a live, so maybe a dont Text and walk one should be applied. I have had a few people bump into me while walking in the stores as well - it seems people cannot be without their cell phones at all

I drive all day
for work and I see this constantly!
There are strict laws here against driving
while using a phone I reckon they should
ban walking with them as well! Every day
I see people walk onto the road oblivious
to anything around them while they stare
at a phone screen!
