Siquijor Island, Philippines.
Siquijor is well known of magic and sorcery. There are even stories from locals about witchcraft and potions. Aside from these interesting stories, the island has many attractions including white sand beaches and waterfalls. It’s a beautiful island that captures the heart of every tourist.
My friend who happens to be in Siquijor for a short vacation called me. He’s planning of buying a “doll with needle on it” for a souvenir. He said he’ll give it to me as a gift. He even teased that I can learn witchcraft with this tool. But I declined. Then he decides to buy love potions. We both laughed at these gift ideas that locals have to come up with just to promote their place.
My friend ended up buying keychains instead, as souvenir.
I’m always fascinated by stories about witchcraft and sorceries. And I even wonder if they are real.
Do you think witchcraft exists?
Photo: This is Siquijor way back 2009 when I visited the place.

My aunt was said to be a victim of this love potion. She was married with three kids but for unknown reasons, she left her family for a plain looking guy. She refused to listen to friends and family and off she went with him. Many years later, when they said the potion had exhausted its magic, she came back to her family as if nothing happened. I don't know if it's a happy ending or not...

@sol_cee I heard so many stories just like that. They said that if you're under the spell, you're conscious of what you're doing but you have no control over it. Scary huh? It's like that you're hypnotized or something.

@sol_cee , Siquijor is a scary place because of their sorcery, in fact, one resident there was interviewed by Korina Sanchez and that woman affirmed that their sorcery there is real and effective. What happens to your aunt is true.

@cacay1 I used to believe that Siquijor is a dangerous place because of what they are known of. But when I visited the place, my fear was replaced with solace, people there are friendly and very much helpful. The sorcery thing dissolved from my mind when I saw how simple and naturally beautiful the island is.

Even in our town the stories of witchcraft and amulets exist. Maybe they exist, just as ghost and other creatures.

You're right, it's hard to ignore their existence. I'm just fascinated with the magical things they do.

Yes. It's a beautiful island @hereandthere. With regards to food, I have no idea. When we were there the last time, the foods in a restaurant we went to served filipino dishes like adobo, pancit canton... they even have pizza. I was not really interested about the food, I was after the scenery.

@cacay1 Maybe, Sis. There's also going on like that here in Samar. Whenever we go to places that are known for black magic, we brought out own foods and drinks. That way, we won't be under their spell.

I've only heard stories about witchcraft. I've never experienced it personally. I bet many lovelorn people go to this island to claim the person they're in love with. But resorting to witchcraft to possess a person you love is quite pathetic. There's 7 billion people in this world. Surely one can find one's true love among this.

@rachz_kisses That is true. Love cannot be forced. If forced then it wouldn't be real love. I don't know if a person can settle for that.

@UmiNoor I agree. You can't force someone to love you, let alone chanting a spell. Nothing beats true love.

@UmiNoor I know some, especially if lots of money is involved. They would rather play the game as long as they become rich rather than stick to good principle and become hungry. And these people are the ones saying true love doesn't exits. They are worse than being under a spell.

Indeed, Siquijor is well known for that. But is it true?
You see, my brother-in-law once told us that whenever he visits US pensioners who are already staying there, he never buys those softdrinks. That's because he is afraid of talks to never open a softdrink there or else a potion could easily be in the softdrink the moment it was given back to you.

There are stories that said to be true but I would prefer that it's not.
When we were there the last time we didn't ate much because of the 'spell'. However, the people there made us feel that we have nothing to worry about because of their friendly hospitality.

@Shavkat I think for the potion, it is a mixture of different herbal plants with main purpose of healing sickness. But for the witchcraft, it's like believing in Vampires and Lycans.

You will believe if you've become a VICTIM of it. witchcraft and voodoo is something you don't take for granted. I still remember how that love potion turned my brother around and just abandon his own family like they didn't exist. His weakness was food and it was all poured in there. I can tell you those are real, you become a victim if you chose to be ignorant about it.

Oh. So this is what happened to your brother. @Letranknight2015. I have heard a lot of stories about these things. Even my Auntie will always warn us not to eat that's been served to us in a place where sorcery is known. Aside from Siquijor, Samar is also known for that kind of activity.
