Our Professor is British

Classes just resumed yesterday and it is a completely new semester to look forward to. I am actually a third year college student taking up Accountancy. I have this Marketing course and it was my first subject yesterday. And I was surprised as I entered the room because I saw an unfamiliar face sitting at the teacher's chair. So, the class started and our professor introduced himself. He is British. I really love British accents and it started from my fascination to the Harry Potter series. Since, I am not a native English speaker I am really having a hard time deciphering every bit of what he says. I could get his points actually but I could not completely figure out every word he speaks. These times I'm actually looking forward to developing my spoken English, I mean I can understand and write in English but I am not that fluent when it comes to speaking it. Maybe this is the answer to my great concern now. Hopefully, I will be get used to listening to English with the accent and this perhaps be my step to be fluent in the language.

i don't think i've ever had a foreigner as a teacher, the most "exotic" would be someone with spanish ancestry. but then that was decades ago. is your college/university an international one?

Lucky you. I'm pretty sure you'll improve considering that you have a professor you can interact with. Is he old? is he good looking? That would be a plus if he is.

Lol. Yeah, I really like to have a conversation with native speakers actually, it would be a great chance to improve my English speaking skills.

@YouKnowWho Surely. I was fortunate to be exposed to native speakers.I used to converse with every single day.
Just today my my son told me how excited he is for his World History class since their teacher is a foreigner. He's not sure if it's American or European but he's white. I think they will meet him tomorrow. So for sure, I'd be hearing a lot of stories about that teacher tomorrow.

The English we speak in the Philippines is American English. Which is why we have a hard time understanding the British English especially their accent. But if he is from the east end of London, you would be completely lost with the cockney accent.

@YouKnowWho , I hope it will be easier to understand him the more you attend his classes. I also enjoyed the Harry Potter movies. :)
