Visiting tourist attractions as a local?

I live in a city which is very popular with tourists. On many occasions I have been asked to recommend which sights they should see or which attractions are worth visiting. The truth is despite living here on and off for years I've hardly seen any of them! The closest I've been is walking or driving past them! I've been to some of the free ones but I have never paid to visit any of the most popular places for tourists. I usually just recommend they visita couple that get good write ups online or go on one of the tours. The strange thing is most of my friends have never been to visit these places either. I can remember taking some photos for one of the ghost tours websites. I was amazed at all thestuff I didn't know about the city I lived in. Have you ever visited the tourist attractions in or nearby your town or city? If you have which would you recommend to a tourist?

@Essjayd Now that i live just 45 minutes from it, i've only been there a few times. They raise the prices every year. Very expensive.

As a kid I always dreamed of going to Disneyland! Unfortunately neither of my parents would fly so we never got to go

@Debscrochet We're in the UK so for most of the lucky ones who get to visit it's a once in a lifetime trip! My partners brother took his kids earlier this year! The kids loved it!

@CoralLevang I'm currently in Edinburgh, Scotland!! An amazing city with plenty of things to see... It's just a shame I've never seen most of them.. Just give me a shout if you're ever over here we can both go and see them all for the first time!

I think a lot of people would say the same thing.I would say I have to very few of our most popular tourist destinations. Although, several I have been to were because of class trips.

I lived in a tropical country and, Philippines is known to have beautiful beaches. But of course, I will suggest my hometown should never be the least on the lists.

The Philippines is a beautiful place a friend of ours regularly visits his mothers family over there. Judging by his pictures it's a beautiful country.

We found out so much about our own area through taking visiting tourists around. Before that, we hadn't really bothered about seeing what there was to see.

I think we're all the same we walk past places and would never think of going in until we have visitors who want to go :)

The Lake Charles area has a few playgrounds and parks to visit. My relatives and myself went to a local church during Halloween to take in some of the sights of the playground area and seeing people dress up as their favorite super hero like one Black woman dressed as Wonder Woman. I almost had a freak attack.

@Essjayd Good thing the Wonder Woman fan was wearing a skirt and not the hot pants that Lynda Carter wore on the television show. This was around 2009.

I'm the same - the only time I visit local attractions is if we have visitors that I need to show around. We lived in France years ago, and every chance we got we would go off visiting the sights, so we know Paris far better than our own hometown, or London.
