I almost passed out from the heat

i was doing something in the kitchen, and i felt myself ready to fall as I had got overheated. I didn't fall though, and I am glad of that, but I did come close. It is so hard to stay cool in this heat, especially since my central air doeosn't work. It costs way to much to get it fixed, so I am dealihg the best way I can. This is the first time, that I have got overheated and almost fell to the floor. I hurttied and finished what I was doing in the kitchen so I could get back into my easy chair and colse to the ac. Since I am elderly, to much heat gets to me, as well as extreme cold. I don't mind the summer, but not when it gets extremely hot I hope that you can precautions, and not get overheated, as it wouldn't be funny to fall on the floor and get hurt. Stay cool everyone and only go outside in the cool of the day.

I'm sorry you got over heated. I have had that happen to me before and it's scary. I'm glad your okay. I couldn't live here without AC, it's way too hot.

I do have an ac but it is only portable as my central air isn't working as it went out last year and I can't afford to fix it. I decided to get a portable one, and it works great as i do get benefit from it when I am by it. the fan in the kitchen didn't help at all, and not sure what to do so it doesn't happen again.

@LovingMyBabies I woud love to get it ifxed, but it costs way to much, which most things do nowadays. I will just dea with fans for now, and my portable ac, as it does help when it is cool and also when it gets hot. I will be moving someday, possibly, and I hope that i do get a home that already has central air.

Glad to hear that you didn't fall. You could have seriously hurt yourself! I've been hearing on the news about the heatwave going on out west. I hope things cool down for you soon. Be careful out there!

@rosekiss At least you recognize the situation for what it is and can be proactive in trying to prevent it. I hope you take good care of yourself!

@moffittjc I am sure trying to, so that it doesn't actually happen. That would have been very bad, and at least I felt the signs of one coming on. There is a bitter fan in the kitchen now, so that it should be cooler than it was last night. It shojdn't happen, I wouldn't think.

I am sure giong to try but it won't be easy. It is always nice in the mornings, and gets blistering hot during the heat of the day. I do have an ac, which does help some, but it is only a portable one and only keeps the living room cool. I have o have fans in the other rooms to cool them down, which at times doesm't help when it gets really hot. I will try to stay cool though, the best way I can.

@infatuatedbby I put a different fan in the kitchen, so it is staying cooler there now, than it idd before, and that is a good thing as it am not so uncomfortale when I am doing things in the kitchen..

@rosekiss It has cooled down lately here but hopefully it won't be too hot. There's a lot of wildfires lately but not in my area, but within the state.

Always keep a wet face towel near you, would come handy when you need it.

@louievill My fanily and I used to live in Hawaii so I should know that it can get really hot there too. I have a bigger fan in the kitchn now, that is really putting out cool air, so that should help when I am in there doing things. I certainly don't want to feel like I am going to pass out, and it actually happen. That would be very bad indeed.

that is another good suggestion, and I will remember it. I never thougth of that, and it certainly does make sense. I wil try to remember to have it near me so that if I feel it coming on, I can put it on my face, and hopefully, stop myself from falling.

@rosekiss take it from somebody who lives in the tropics, the fastest way to cool the body is wetting the hands, armpits, sole of the foot, yes wipe the face and ear area first

I think you need to hydrate yourself, my friend. You can refrain from going outside and be under the sun for a long time.

I wasn't outside nor was I in the sun. I was in the house, and in the kitchn at the time. My cental air needs to be fixed and I can't afford to get it fixed, so I have to use fans throughout the house, and I do have an ac in the living roon in one corner. It is right across from where I sit in my easy chair. when I am in my chair, I am okay, and when I get up to go into other parts of the house, I do get hot. I do have a fan in the kitchen which didn't seem to help all that much, as when it started to happen, I could feel it and I did everything I ould to stop from falling. I didn't fall, though, and I am happy about that.

@rosekiss I hope the kitchen place is not enclosed. I sometimes open my windows to let the air comes in.

@Shavkat No, it isn't enclosed, as the pattio door is in the itchen, and I have it open a bit so that the dogs can go in and out when tey need to. I just didn't have the right fan in the kitchen is all, and I have rectifed that now, and it is much better than it was. I wish I had the money for the central air, but I don't so I have to make do without it.

@LadyDuck Sine my easy chair is aross from the portable ac, I do feel it most of the time, and it does help.. My latptop table is right next to my easy chair. I use a wireless keyboard that I can put on my lap so I don't have to move. i have to stay cool after all. It fees good right now though, this being the longest day of the year. Now, it will go back the other way, and the days will get shorter again. I hate to think about that anfd winter coming on again.

I had an elderly landlady back in the 70s that taught me a neat trick to stay cool when sleeping but I think you can use it anytime. Have a fan on you and a spray bottle of water (she used a sprinkler way back when, remember those when mom did the ironing?) and spray yourself occasionally. The air hitting the water will feel soooo good! I used to do that at night, spraying my sheet in the Phoenix horrible heat 115 and higher. My landlady traveled with the carnival all over the country and of course their trailers did not have a/c back when she was working!

Here in Oregon, we can really get hot, and the last few years it has been hotter than normal. I just can't take the heat, nor can I take the cold either. Right now, I am in my easy chair close to the ac, so I feel better than I did yesterday, and I have a fan in the kitchen too, but for some reason it just didn't help to keep me from geting overheated. I could feel it coming on, so I hung on to the counter until it passed, and then I hurried up and came into the living room and sat in my chair, and it didn't take long for me to feel better. I am glad of that too. I will just have to watch myself in the heat.

I was in the kitchen where I only have a fan, and for some reason, the fat just wan't helping much. It just seemed to make things worse. I just hope it doesn't happen again, as it was very scary, that is for sure.

I will get iut in the morning when it is cooler, as during he heat of the day, I will stay by the ac as much as I can. I just don't do well in the heat at all. I never have, and even more so now, since i am older, it is even worse. It was cool for so long, and I was hoping it would wam up, and it has done that alright, just a little to much.

Oh my goodness take care. I see someone suggested the cool water over your wrists. Cool cloths anywhere could help too, especially while in front of your AC. Go to the mall. Go swimming. I hope you get a break from the weather.

So do I. It can really geting hot and say that way for several months, and be dry too. The grass turns brown until the fall when it greens right back up again. I don't like a lot of heat, especially at the age I am. If I were younger, t might not be so bad, but being a senior citizen, I have to be mire careful, and not get overheated if at all possible.
