I wonder if horses get lonely

From the time we were house hunting, and through our move and every day we have gone to work until just a month or so ago, we have seen this white horse, alone, in this paddock.
Once there were two young steers penned up here with her for a while. Only one time have we ever seen a person here. I always thought she must be lonely, and bored. There is an image of a horse painted on one of the windows of the barn. Sometimes it seemed she would go over and "talk" to it.
Then the second door started being left open on the barn. Next thing you know, this young brown foal was in the pen. They go everywhere together.
I do not believe the white one is the mother, but more like a mentor or companion. I am glad she has company now. It makes me feel she is less alone.

I love how companionable they seem. Occasionally they still talk to the window horse, as well.

A happy ending. I am so glad. I always feel that it is sad to see only animal anywhere. I think there she be a companion for all animals. I think they do get lonely just don't relate to it like we do perhaps. I used to go across the road from where I lived and take clover to a pasture where five horses roamed and rode them bareback all over the pasture. They weren't mine and I shouldn't have but I did. Then one day the owner came and I went over and stuck my face in what he was doing. He said that they needed riding but didn't say much else. I think a neighbor had told him and he was just telling me it was okay. I was about fourteen or so then. Horses are wonderful animals.

I imagine that was fun, and harmless. Nowadays someone would be afraid of being sued and not allow it.

@GardenGerty I worry about that too when I see it. When we lived in NC we passed a pasture with a horse that was laying down on his back. I told my husband pull over and see if that horse is okay please! I know it wasn't mine but it was hot outside and I didn't think the horse should be laying there.
Thank God when my husband pulled over the horse got up and was fine. I have just never seen a horse laying on his back like that before.

I feel the same way, there is this little pony I see that is always alone, now he is in the cow pasture and happy to hang around them.

That's good. My grandparents always kept horses and cows together.

I know some do, and some are content with human interactions, but these were not getting any of that. They have both since been removed. I am not sure where.

Well Princess has been an only cat for nearly three years, and I am sure that is why she spends so much time with us.

Awh, at least they have each other now. I think horses do crave companionship -human or animal.

It would not have felt so bad if I had seen a person there from time to time. Instead they would just plop a huge round bale of hay in the middle of the ground and leave. I imagine there is water access somewhere. The horse would get all dirty and then next thing you know she would look clean and white again.

I do believe most animal species need a companion @GardenGerty . I'm glad the white horse isn't alone anymore.

My work computer overlooks a field where there are three horses, and even though it's a large field they usually all stay together. Though every once in a while one will go off on its own for a few hours, as if it needs some occasional alone time too.

I think most animals like choices, just as we do.
