I'm Praying for Safety for All That Got too Much Rain Recently

Over this past weekend we got another four inches of rain after having rain off and on throughout last week. It some more during the week but mostly at night so we were able to still work in the daytime, but last night it rained again and not only that it was a heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning. I finally turned my computer off around midnight last night since I didn't want to lose everything if our house was hit.
We got word this morning that many of the streets around two were flooded and closed off. In fact, most of us called in to stay home from work as no one was sure they could even get to their jobs. Our store had water up to the entrance and the whole parking lot was under water. A fellow cashier went in before daybreak to work the cash office and he didn't realize the road he turned on was submerged in water until his car began floating. He opened the windows and climbed out. I don't know whether his car landed on a dry spot or whether it kept moving with the current.
Someone posted on facebook that we were closed for the weekend, so it wasn't very busy this morning and they ran the place with a skeleton crew. By noon the sun came out and the clouds disappeared and the waters began going back down again. By mid afternoon a manager began calling cashiers to see who could come in and work, and I was one that went in. I just got home a few minutes ago.
More of our parking lot is free of water but there are still a few larger puddles around and the image is one of them near where we employees park when working. A street nearby is still under water. Some subdivisions had to evacuate people and most of us with basements have water inside our homes.
It's supposed to rain more this coming weekend beginning tomorrow. I know some of you have been hit with rain from hurricane Cindy and might have similar situations with flooding in your areas. I'm praying that God can move any more incoming waters to areas that are dry so those already affected by this odd weather have remission from any more rain in the near future.
How are things in your neck of the woods?
Heavy rains brought flooding to parts of Michigan, prompting authorities in the Midland area to caution people against unnecessary travel.

The water is going down and did much better once the sun came out yesterday. Today is starting with sunshine so that should dry up more of what's in the ground too, but if any more rain comes too soon we may be back there again. I'm hoping it goes elsewhere instead.

@LadyDuck A thunderstorm or two is one thing, constant thundershowers or hard rains is not a blessing. We had a fairly dry week here since then, but areas around town are still quite wet. Especially yards and parks.

Wow, well I am very glad that you were able to get into work and back home again safely. We are getting the remnants of tropical storm Cindy here in Connecticut today.

I thought all along that we were getting that same storm system too, but someone here said that storm is headed directly toward Pa and surrounding states and we're getting something else entirely.
I woke to sunny and blue skies but it's in the forecast for more rain later this afternoon, which I'm sure our areas can't handle. I also found out that not all areas in Michigan were hit and some were actually quite dry, so I'm praying that God is able to direct those rains to someone that isn't already soggy from previous ones and that need the rain which we certainly don't.

@BelleStarr So do I. When talking to customers yesterday, I shared my idea with many of them hoping they would join me in thinking that way. As Christians we should be able to turn the tide on storms and similar events from wrecking havoc in our lives and areas just like Jesus did on the boat with the apostles.
Most of us don't think about even trying or realize that God is wanting to help us out if we'd only think to ask.

The water is pretty much gone unless I forget to empty the dehumidifier that is.
I'm fine. I still need to go through things that got wet when the water came in, but my daughter and I were planning on going through junk in the basement to clear things out anyway even before that happened. Now we just have that much more to work on. I'll be taking next weekend off to do some of that or so I hope and possibly more time in August.
I sort of lost my mojo for writing and being here so much. I have been taking pictures to share, but I know darn well that once I post something I'll either get behind or be here too much.
I will have to update everyone one of these days. Thanks for asking.

We've not had much rain until tonight, but it's supposed to quit by early morning tomorrow and then begin again later at night Thursday and again on Friday. I'm hoping that all those homeowners that had to pull much of their belongings and furnishings haven't replaced anything yet, for it could possibly happen again.
Most of my rooms are now dried out although I'm still finding certain tiles near the washing machine have water underneath them still. I have a dehumidifier running constantly in that room. The room that there is probably still some standing water is the furnace room as there are no drains in the floor there. I was using the shop vac to eliminate the water but it's a slow process.

We have several small rivers that go through sections of the area and often it will flood in the spring when it rains a lot and the ground isn't thawed completely yet. That won't impact homes though as it mostly floods on golf courses and open spaces. Unless people live near there, otherwise we stay dry. This is the first time since 1986 that we've gotten a lot of rain at once, then though, it rained for 21 days straight. This time we got hard rains along with gentle rains but lots of it in a short time.
This is the first time I've gotten water in the basement from rainfall since we've lived here these sixteen years.
The water is receding with the sunny skies and I heard that even if it does rain today it shouldn't make things any worse than it is already.

@YrNemo We have farmers in our area, but even t though the farm lands will often have standing water right after winter is over and while we're getting the spring rains, by this time of year the risk of flooding is usually over. People can pay extra for flood insurance, but I'm sure if they do claims too often their rates will increase. They probably just take the loss instead.
Most of the harvesting of crops here isn't until August and many won't even do their planting until close to the end of May, so maybe they can still recoup their losses if there are any.

@MarshaMusselman OMG! Now I wonder if your area is good for farming? ( I am hopeless in this regard, but often heard that farmers don't mind areas which often have the risk of flooding. Can you claim insurance if there is any damage involved due to this sort of natural disaster?)

It just rained here few minutes ago. It's usually hot during day time and rains heavily during late afternoons.

Does your area get flooding from daily rains or is it designed to allow the rains to run off and not bother the townspeople?

There will be if any future rains this weekend don't bother us but go elsewhere instead.
