Old Hobbies

I was browsing through some of my online collections of photos and came across a folder full of my sketches. It has been a long time since I’ve drawn anything. It is one hobby that fell by the wayside when I was forced to face the fact that there are only twenty-four hours in the day. I always assumed that I would resume drawing once I retired. That hasn’t happened. I’m retired now but there are still only twenty-four hours in the day. Have you ever given up a hobby due to the lack of time? Will you return to it one day?

@BettyB My hobby was writing. As an unemployed graduate I used to write articles and stories for reputed Hindi magazines. After I got employed, I had to give up writing. Is the sketch given above yours? It's great indeed.

Yes I really love crafting. Nowadays l am working on shift and don't really have that much time for crafting. I usually make D.I.Y cards for christmas. I will have to find sometime to do it this year too

I barely read anymore and I certainly never crochet, I did crochet a bit when I was in Florida but really, I have no time with all the other things I am doing.

I love to crochet and to read. Now days I've combined the two activities. I listen to an audiobook while crocheting.

@BelleStarr I love the audiobooks. A lot of authors offer the audio version with the purchase of a download (Kindle) for a few bucks more. That way I have both and the sync so I can switch back and forth.

Those flowers are very well done. I gave up painting, I still do a little in winter, but in summer the garden is a priority.

@LadyDuck That it does and when its hot outside its exhausting. I'm going to go out early tomorrow morning and see if I can battle back the perpetual weeds.

I painted a little when I was younger, but it wasn't my medium. I was never happy with the results. The garden is definitely the priority in the summer.

That's a beautiful sketch. Sewing has fallen by the wayside. That's why I was quick to get a sewing machine when my daughter asked me to teach her how to sew - so I could get back to it again. You're right about only having 24 hours in a day. It's hard to pack everything in we want to do.

I still sew but its mostly limited to baby quilts and lap robes for the nursing home. I bought a pattern and some material a few weeks ago. It's still sitting by my sewing machine. I'll get to it, eventually.

I haven't fully given up a hobby. I just decided to pursue other worthy endeavors. Of course, I'l return to it someday. The hobby that I'm talking about is photography.

You are supposed to have so much time now, but it seems your hands are full. That sketch is very nice actually. Maybe you should also give it some time and post them here for us to admire.

I enjoy drawing but there are so many other things that I like to do that I have to pick and choose. When the weather cools down this fall I'll pick up my sketch pad again.

@BettyB I love what I do and am surprised every time I get a check in the mail...I don't have to do it, so I still love what I do...the money is just a bonus.

I probably could have but I like creating it. Marketing it is another story. I've always been afraid that if it reaches the point where I have to do it, it won't be fun anymore. I do make a little on my photography but its my writing that I have high hopes for. I need to get back to that.

Yes! I loved playing the guitar, even though I wasn't any good at it. I eventually gave it away to a friend. Lately, I'm beginning to miss it. I'm thinking of getting another one just to fool around with it again.

Isn't it funny that you have more time b/c you are not working, but still not enough time for these things? Is it this way with all humans?

You are so right. I like to stay busy and knew that I wouldn't be bored after retiring, but I thought I would have some down time. Guess not. I know people that went back to work after retiring and staying home for six months. They were bored! I can't imagine that.

I love your sketch. Quilting and embroidery fell by the wayside, but I plan on making a special baby quilt when our younger son has a child. They don't cut it with our decor.
