Old Hobbies

I was browsing through some of my online collections of photos and came across a folder full of my sketches. It has been a long time since I’ve drawn anything. It is one hobby that fell by the wayside when I was forced to face the fact that there are only twenty-four hours in the day. I always assumed that I would resume drawing once I retired.
That hasn’t happened.
I’m retired now but there are still only twenty-four hours in the day.
Have you ever given up a hobby due to the lack of time? Will you return to it one day?

I barely read anymore and I certainly never crochet, I did crochet a bit when I was in Florida but really, I have no time with all the other things I am doing.

@BettyB Now that is something I am going to have to consider.

@BelleStarr I love the audiobooks. A lot of authors offer the audio version with the purchase of a download (Kindle) for a few bucks more. That way I have both and the sync so I can switch back and forth.

That's a beautiful sketch. Sewing has fallen by the wayside. That's why I was quick to get a sewing machine when my daughter asked me to teach her how to sew - so I could get back to it again. You're right about only having 24 hours in a day. It's hard to pack everything in we want to do.

I haven't fully given up a hobby. I just decided to pursue other worthy endeavors. Of course, I'l return to it someday. The hobby that I'm talking about is photography.

@allen0187 I use my photos to make magnets on Zazzle. They sell fairly well.

I miss it. There are several projects that I would like to get back to. I just need to find the time.

I do hope you'll make an effort to resume your drawing. I bet you'll be glad you did. Is that one of your drawings? It's really pretty.

I make great money with my art so I will be doing it until I don't need or want money

@BettyB I love what I do and am surprised every time I get a check in the mail...I don't have to do it, so I still love what I do...the money is just a bonus.

I probably could have but I like creating it. Marketing it is another story. I've always been afraid that if it reaches the point where I have to do it, it won't be fun anymore. I do make a little on my photography but its my writing that I have high hopes for. I need to get back to that.

No. But I never had an artistic kind of hobby.

Yes! I loved playing the guitar, even though I wasn't any good at it. I eventually gave it away to a friend. Lately, I'm beginning to miss it. I'm thinking of getting another one just to fool around with it again.

Isn't it funny that you have more time b/c you are not working, but still not enough time for these things? Is it this way with all humans?

You are so right. I like to stay busy and knew that I wouldn't be bored after retiring, but I thought I would have some down time. Guess not. I know people that went back to work after retiring and staying home for six months. They were bored! I can't imagine that.
