Finally today my husband finished painting the stairwell to the basement. The highest point is about 6 metres high. He built a platform to stand on while he painted.
Now with new tile on the steps and with the fresh paint, it looks great when I open the door to the basement.
I spent all the time he was standing on that platform worrying. I was poised and ready to dial 911! Now the platform is pulled out and I can relax.
I won't think about all the work left to do around the corner at the bottom of the steps.
By looking back on my discussions, I see we planned this in February!
Last week my husband ripped the carpet off the basement stairs. He is now putting tile on the steps. The tile looks quite nice; it's the same as the tile we...

It will never be finished. There is more to do in the basement. Then the bathroom up stairs. Then the bedroom needs to be painted, then the whole upstairs. If we do it little by little, it will never be done. But that is okay, everything is perfectly liveable right now.

@LadyDuck Interesting. I am glad he heeds you. I have pretty low blood pressure. But I only have to be careful when standing up from the ground - like when weeding the garden I have to stand up slowly not suddenly or I will just black out for a moment.

Well at least it is down now and you can move on to your next project. Our next big project is putting flooring in the laundry room and bathroom.

Finally it is done.
I also managed to finish an overdue plan.
Today, I helped my youngest son to replace the pull up cover in our kitchen.

Things take so much longer than we think they will, especially if we are waiting for someone else to do what needs to be done. Many of us have learned how to do more than we ever intended to learn b/c we were tired of waiting for something to be done and just did it ourselves.

@paigea Most of us get that! We had scaffolds in our house for weeks so someone (not me) could work on and paint ceilings!

It is great that he has the ability to get all that done, safely as well.

@DianneN Yes, we need the stairwell to be well lit. Not sure why the house didn't have a light originally there. there is a light switch at the top that turns on a light near the stairwell at the bottom, but that is not quite enough. And there is a window right beside the bottom of the stairwell.

I have several places that are too tall for comfortable painting, including a 14-foot ceiling in my kitchen. A platform is a good idea I think, better than a ladder. Glad it is over and he is safe.

My husband is pretty focused and industrious. But, this basement overall is taking years. He would not let that happen to something upstairs though. Each project upstairs is tackled and completed in a timely manner. On the other hand I have had a can of paint and some painter's tape sitting in the bathroom for a month (or more ) waiting for me to get around to my small painting job.
