LUCK, DESTINY, BIG DREAMS.

What does it take to elevate a poor girl from the ghetto to world wide fame and fortune? - Could it be luck - being in the right place at the right time - or dreaming big dreams and having them realized through hard work and determination.?
Some of us work hard to realize our dreams - but they never come through, while for others it seems like their destiny.
Many years ago in my country, there was a young lad who sold sweets and cigarettes on the streets. He ended up owning most of the movie theaters in that country - and a few overseas.
Have you experienced any surprising breakthroughs in your life ? - or realized a dream which seemed impossible at first? Do you dream big?

Education, persistence, and resilience, along with some good fortune are necessary. The education doesn't necessarily have to be in a classroom. The person who wound up owning the theaters learned business on-the-job, so to speak.
One of what I thought were my own impossible dreams came true in 2011 when I published my first novel. I'd wanted to be a writer since I was 12. It only took 39 years for me to see that dream come true.

When I started working, I dared not take any home loans. Interest rates were exorbitant in those days. But even otherwise, I was not confident I would be able to work for the next 15 to 20 years. By god's grace, I dared and went on daring, things changed from then.

@Kandae11 ..I dared, it caused stress. There is no denying that. But I persevered...when it became easier, I took another because I realized it is not that bad..only a few years suffering. The big thing was daring to take the first home loan on shoe string budget and not a permanent employment.

Some are lucky to move to the right (or just better) environment. Determination does play a big part, but without luck, nothing will happen I think. (I am thinking of all those actor and actress hopefuls, waiting for their chances while being waiters and waitresses around Hollywood.)

I think I used too, but now kind of just go with the flow. I am not worried about all that stuff because it can really disappoint you and consume the good things you do have if one is not careful. As long as people are having doing it, then keep doing it. The moment it is not fun anymore, it is time to move on is how I more or less see things.

I don't dream big.
I want the minimum in life and keep striving for it.
Yes some are lucky I think..luck is random.
Others work hard.

I think it's both. While hard work and determination are the most important, luck can play an optimal part too.

@Kandae11 Yes, because sometimes people just happen to be at the right place at the right time.

I've always been a dreamer. My biggest dream is writing, which is what I'm doing now. Although, my #1 dream is to one day write for TV, I'm happy with the way my writing career is going now.

I've heard it said people make their own luck in life. I'm sure a little hard work and determination thrown in can't hurt!! Realized an impossible dream...let's see, I know one. I was a pretty unmotivated student in high school. Never dreamed I had it in me to make the Honor Roll in college but I did.

@Kandae11 Sure, college it was all on you to achieve. Your time after class was yours to do with what you will. I think it was a combination of gaining maturity being away from home, and the freedom of college itself. You own the decisions you make, and the unstructured lifestyle of campus and classes just suited me better...

Well, I think the reason some from the projects make it big due to having a Dream of a bigger better lifestyle and going for it, and not accepting NO. Many times people just want to accept things thinking this is the way it will always be and never want more for themselves, their kids, etc.
Many times in my life I have overcome many challenges or would not be where I am today. Looking back if I would have never taken time to step out and want to make something more of my life, I may not be around today to Celebrate the great things in life.

I have done a lot of things in life that when I look back now I can't believe I did it.I consider myself a cautious risk taker.

There are a few things, situations that have just come to me... like magic. I think with making anything work, it takes luck, positive thinking, being in the right place at the right time....
