I assume that everybody everywhere has heard about the cravings that go along with being pregnant. I am sure you have heard tales of fathers-to-be running out to the store late at night to purchase pickles and ice cream to satisfy the cravings of their pregnant loved one. Some think that these cravings are a way to get a little more attention. Well, I am here to tell you, these craving are real. Believe it or not the reason there is a craving is to tell the body what extra little bit of nutrient or vitamin the body needs. Why the father to be gets cravings, yes the do get craving, well, some of them do, is a big question. When I was carrying my first baby I wanted grapefruit all the time. With my second one I was craving chocolate milk (this was my favorite craving). My third pregnancy was spent foraging for raw carrots. I have et to meet a expectant mother who craved the all popular tale of craving pickles and ice cream. I have however know someone who craved crunchy peanut butter and finely chopped jalapeno peppers. So ladies embrace your craving and enjoy your pregnancy. You deserve it and believe me there is a reason you are having these cravings. Baby daddies, enjoy, find a craving of your own and relax. The cravings don't last all that long.

@HazySue with my first two I craved pasta and pizza. The third was cauliflower and with my son (the youngest) it was back to pasta and pizza. Crazy isn't it

Grapefruit would give me heart burn. Anything citrusy when I was pregnant and I had heart burn. Ugh! I had some cravings for things I never ate when not pregnant. So that was weird. But, my daughter eats those things now. Weird.

With my first pregnancy, I craved banana splits. I remember my husband taking me to Dairy Queen to get one, ha ha I also, craved Arby's Roast Beef Sandwiches and made sure I bought them a couple of times a week.. With my second pregnancy, I don't remember craving anything in particular.

It is funny what our body wants when we are pregnant. My husband love Arby's Roast Beef sandwiches. I wonder, do you think he is having a craving? He could eat them everyday.

@JustBhem It sounds like your cravings are getting you to try things once again. You may end up liking papaya.

Yes, they are real. The salty cravings, like pickles or potato chips are to support the increased blood volume that pregnancy brings. You need the salt and the potassium these things contain because your blood volume increases by an additional 50 %.

There is a reason for the cravings. I didn't crave the salty stuff but I am sure there was a reason I craved the items I did.

@HazySue I did not think of it as a craving, but when I was expecting my first the meal that made me feel good and not nauseous was canned chicken noodle soup, with buttered saltines and glasses of cold milk. Milk and ice cream cravings speak to the needed increase in calcium to form the bones and teeth for the baby.

Not every pregnant woman craves food. I however craved and ate cheese breadsticks, wendys, and fried dough most of my pregnancy. Ive seen pregnant woman crave pickles, but not with ice cream.

from what I understand, most of them do have a craving for something during this time. It is typically because their body needs more of that particular vitamin or mineral.

My cravings were sour now its more like oily chips with a lot (i really mean a lot) of tomato and mustard sause. I don't get cravings as often anymore but yes they are real. I woke up a few times with all different kind of cravings... one day it will be like a chicken and mushroom pie the next time it will be like ice cream. I feel like I'm carrying triplets hahahaha

I think that is unusual. Are you sure you are only carrying one? Usually you stay with in a certain family of food. It sounds like your baby likes it all.
