The Joy of being an Amateur (But Slightly Better Than Your Friends) Baker

It's come to my attention that I cannot post my recipes here. While that makes me a little sad, there are always other places I can share that. It's also come to my attention that I'm allowed to gush about baking here...sans the recipes. So I shall.
Recently, I had to make my experimental Fig Newton cake for a friend's birthday. Since I was just learning, I decided to use a box mix and replace ingredients as needed. When she finally ate the cake, she wouldn't even share it with me. I thought she was joking, but she took the whole cake from my hands and licked the top! I'm not big on eating sweets (irony) so I didn't mind too much. Anyway, I tell this story to a friend, who then demands to try that cake because there is no way it could be that good. So, I go make her the same thing. She takes one bite, she looks at the cake, then looks at me, then looks back at the cake.
"But you burn ramen"
Is her response...right before she walks off while eating the whole cake. I think I'm going to call my prototype a resounding success. I hope the non-box mix will follow with the same results.

If you are using box directions, it might be your stove time that's the problem. I always just assume a minimum of 15 minutes, and a maximum of 35. If not using box directions, it could be you are using too much of one ingredient. If the cake is also too dense when it comes out, then that is more than likely the cake-culprit. I used to have this problem with flour.

That is an interesting recipe. Very creative to use fig newtons in a cake.

I have something coming up soon, so I will make it and share a picture when it's fresh. You know, before someone licks it and walks off.

@indoorotaku I'll be on the look out for it...
Oh, how did you burn ramen? Left it boiling too long?
