~I Wanted To Bless Her~

Last night the kids and I walked up to the store to get a few things. There was a lady in front of me who went to pay for her stuff and the card declined. Her order came to $6 and I wanted to help in a small way. I told the cashier I wanted to pay for her stuff. She said no, she's going to the car to get the money for it. I said, I know I want to pay for it before she comes back inside. She said just come over to this register and I will ring your stuff up. By the time she was done with my stuff the lady walked back in with $6 in cash...
I was a little annoyed because I wanted to be a blessing for someone. I have no idea why the cashier was not having it but she would not let me pay for those items. Never had that happen before!
Have you tried to bless someone else but couldn't for some reason?

I'm surprised at the cashier's attitude but she might have known something about the lady and how she would react. The cashier may have been blessing you by keeping you from being hurt or embarrassed by the lady's reaction. The important thing to remember is, your generous spirit may not have been able to bless the lady ahead of you in line, but your example was a blessing for the cashier to see.

@DWDavis Yes that's true, I didn't even think about it that way. Your absolutely right though, thank you. And that is one reason I share things here. =)
So, I could have been a blessing without even getting to bless the person I intended to bless.

@LovingMyBabies Often the Lord works through us in ways we don't understand. I believe the cashier needed to see your kindness more than the lady needed your help. She will remember it, perhaps, when she most needs a smile or reassurance that good people are still out there in this world.

@LovingMyBabies I think @DWDavis is right. Something or someone else was at work here.

Weird woman..people are weird, that cashier should have let you. Maybe she thought she would get in some kind of trouble, I don't know.
Too bad she wouldn't let you, i am sure that lady would have been so happy.
Good of you to try to do so.
I have helped others before but not had that happen to me no.

@Tiarasoceanview It was the strangest thing I have ever dealt with. It almost seemed like the cashier was jealous or something. I don't know, but she was not having it at all.

That does seem odd, but maybe she is familiar with the woman and had her reasons for not allowing someone else to pay for her items. Or maybe she wasn't sure if she was coming back in to get her stuff. She could have just said she was going to the car to get the money and left.

@Srbageldog Yeah she might have known something I didn't. I just thought it was strange.
I really felt like I should help.

@LovingMyBabies It could be that the cashier was just a jerk, too. Some cashiers behave really oddly.

@Hazysue Thank you, I wish I could have actually helped like I really wanted to. I don't know what the deal was with that cashier-it was weird.

You will be blessed for trying to help someone.
Some people are just sour and don't like to see other people help someone.
I once wanted to give a lady a who was homeless a few dollars in the winter time, but by the time I came out of the store, she was gone.

@Girlfromtheworld Thank you. As someone else said, maybe the blessing wasn't meant for her and that's why it happened the way it did.

I wonder why she refused to take help, it was so kind of you to think about some one who is in need

That was a nice gesture of you Jennifer. There are few people like you who can do that. Don't worry about the cashier, God knows the desire of your heart to help.

That is the thing about blessings, especially when it comes to being one, often we bless people when we are totally unaware that they are watching us. Like some one has already said in the comments maybe your offer was the blessing for someone who was not even on your check out line. Or maybe it is someone here on MyLot that needed or needs to read this. .

@maggs224 Yeah, that definitely could be the case. I didn't think about it until DwDavis said that.
Thank you. =)

That is weird! I've never had that happen before, where a cashier wouldn't let you pay for someone else's stuff. From a cashier's perspective, who cares where the money comes from as long as the items are paid for! But don't fret at not being able to help, it was the thought that counted, and I think that still counts as a blessing!
A few years ago, when I was on vacation to Disney at Christmas, the kids and I were getting breakfast at the Disney resort hotel one morning, and my Magic Band wouldn't work (at Disney, you use your Magic Band for your hotel room key, your charges, and your ticket to the parks). Because I was expecting to pay for all the food by waving my Magic Band at the register, I didn't bring my wallet with me. When the Magic Band wouldn't work, the lady in line behind me offered to pay for our entire breakfast, which was over $50! I felt horrible, but it would have taken me about 20 minutes to run back to the hotel room to get my wallet. I offered to take down her information so I could pay her back, but she refused, and just said, "consider it a Christmas present." That was so nice of her to do that!
I always will jump in and offer to help out people who are short on money, or are having trouble paying for things. To me, it's just the right thing to do!

No I didn't because I never got opportunity to do this.It is strange that she refused to take your help but it is so kind that you thought to help her.

I have to agree with @DWDavis
There may have been some reason that was stopped but it was still noticed. How kind of you to want to do that so badly, though!

I would assume that the cashier is familiar with the woman and maybe she knows more about the woman's situation.

Maybe they were instructed by the store management not to do that way, paying on behalf of others.
