Of my main three jobs, working at my friend's preschool is my favorite. Littlies always put me in a good mood. I get lots of hugs, and actually enjoy building stacky towers and getting served chocolate cake make out of sand and water.
Hopefully my expressive aphasic buddy will be there. He's started using some two-word utterances, and is still a delight to be around.
Of course, I have a question: When you're feeling a tad blue (which I do now and then) do happy people and happy songs "pick you up"? Or do they just irritate you?
I like to listen to sad songs when I'm sad, and I prefer heavy conversation to happy conversation when I'm sad. My chronically depressed friends get irritated by happy people. Conversely, some MyLotters have said they prefer happy songs to sad songs when they feel sad and blue.
But happy kids always seem to pick me up. Maybe it's because it gives my life meaning to think that I'm contributing to their development. I'm not sure. Off I go!

Yes, being around happy little , laughing kids makes you feel useful. And that picks up your spirit.
The only time I do not want happy and all that is when I am going to sleep or in serious need of sleep....
I listen to sad music and happy music and happy will make me feel better but I am also singing along so both arent that bad on my moods.

I feel more inspired to write things like short stories when I'm sad or angry. Same with songs, I think. But I do have a happy song I wrote that I'm going to record soon. It's not "Pollyannaish," but it's generally happy. For some reason, I really identify with a lot of James McMurtry's songs. I'll attach one, in case you don't know his music.

I listen to a lot of dark music, but it does help a little.

It depends. If I am real depressed nothing makes me very happy. If just in a down mood I can usually be brought around and like to watch a funny movie or see children playing and laughing. Laughter can be so contagious and that is one thing I like to catch.

@celticeagle I like dark humor as well, though. Movies like Pulp Fiction and TV shows like Breaking Bad tend to make me roll on the floor laughing.

@just4him Glad you're doing better. Too many cooks... It's good to iron out inconsistencies, but other than that, different people will like/dislike different things. I don't have the attention span/patience to write a novel. Most of my short stories, songs, etc., were done in the span of a few days.

@TheHorse I got an e-mail from my editor who also sent the full copy of my manuscript to his father to read and he came back with even more things for me to look at. I don't know why, but I was at boiling point about it, and when I looked at what he thought there was a problem with, I was completely at a loss as to the problem.
I could understand why the red flags a week ago and the need to fix the story near the end, at which place I am right now in the revision, but I was really at a loss and told him so.
As I'm going through this final edit and necessary revision, I'm also not very happy with my friend who proofed it for me. There is so much wrong with it, my head is spinning. Freedom's Cry took a long time for me to write, and it's obvious I forgot what I had already written when I picked it up again with all the inconsistencies in it. So I'm repairing that damage and making it consistent and then to have that little bit of news it was more than I could handle. It really made me depressed for the day and added to the stress I'm under with it, which also took it's toll on my back. Which put me in the recliner with the massage chair pad until I could get back to my book and work it out.
Okay, there you have it. I'm doing much better today.

There's nothing more uplifting for me, than a sincere hug from a little child!:( And when I'm depressed, sad music is always what I'd rather listen to. Also, I prefer being alone, which helps me sort out my thoughts and to rest my over-active mind. When I do this, little by little things eventually start improving. I've had others say, go visit a friend, get a part-time job, have peppy conversation with a jubilant, upbeat person! All these ideas don't work, for this lady:( I actually feel worse around other people. Kids are real, they don't pretend to like us!:( This photo is adorable!

Ok...so you are looking at a serious answer. It pretty much depends upon the nature of sadness I think. If a loved one was in hospital, or no more, I would hate happy songs even though those would be my normal choice if say I failed at something, or work did not move, or somebody was nasty to me, or even if I hurt me etc. As far as littlies are concerned, they are god given cure for all kind of sadness I feel. You sure are lucky.

I'm more for the sad, gut-wrenching emotional songs. Happy songs have their place - but I don't want to hear them when I'm not feeling it. As far as happy people . . . I don't mind them being perky . . . but I do get irritated when they get overly happy thinking that would distract me from my emotions.

Honestly, hearing about how peachy some people's lives are when things are horrible for us makes me a little bitter.
However, being around little ones does help to make me happier. =)

Kids in any shape or form don't pick me up . I am not a kid person, never had the motherly instinct and didn't want kids.

If I'm sad, all it takes is a commercial to come on that has music in the background and I'm dancin' around @TheHorse . Music and dancing have always been a plus for me.

Working with young kids is great, most of the time. Even if they have some behavior problems, they intrigue me. I want to know what makes them tick. Happy adults--sometimes are annoying because they cannot consider that others are not always happy. Music, I like praise and worship songs or things from the hymnal that I can sing along with. I think the patterned breathing of singing is good for your health and your mood.

hope you enjoy your day. When I'm blue some of my upbeat oldie songs make me feel better. At times I like sad song because i need a good cry. You reminded me of this happy song from my kindergarten days.

Sad songs are better when I'm sad as i can normally "connect" to those at the moment which makes me not feel so alone. Happy kids help though
