Marvellous Montreal

My family and I have discovered just how wonderful and marvelous Montreal is during summer. We were there for a week during which time we explored via buses and the metro as well as on foot. The food we sampled was delicious. I suspect that poutine is considered a little overrated by many people, but I loved it and would probably eat it several times a week if I could. We stayed at a five-week old Holiday Inn where the service was exceptional and the facilities first rate. Having purchased an annual membership to the Botanical gardens, we are already planning a return visit.

Poutine is a bowl of hot chips topped with gravy and cheese "curds". It can also include various meats and/or vegetables. Sounds gross but is delish :)

Never been to Canada. Sounds like a very good time there. Fries, cheese and gravy a trifecta of fine ingredients. I bet the Botanical gardens were amazing

The gardens were fabulous, as was the insectarium found inside the grounds of the gardens. A real delight and educational for the children :)

Thanks. We went because my husband had a conference, then stayed for a few more days. otherwise I'm not sure we'd have ever gone...

I am going to suggest that if you haven't visited Quebec City, it is well worth the effort. It is by far my favorite.

I bet it's changed! I believe that it is less outwardly militant towards English speakers now.

@BellaDoc I did encounter a sales clerk who couldn't speak English, and my French was not up to explaining why I wanted to return a product. But we got through it. Most people in Montreal seem to speak English though

I'm glad that you had a good time! I would like to visit Canada myself. I'm right next door because I am in Michigan. I would love to go to Niagara Falls. The botanical sounds nice too.
